Last chance to talk me out of SH-2B...

I am 99% sure going to try the SH-2B in my Schecter PT. The SH-4B has gotta go. The other 1% is down to the classic '59. I also thought about Pearly Gates but cannot afford the extra dough.....

Not sure of the sound you are going for, but I've tried alot of bridge humbuckers in my modded tele (59, Custom, CC, Stewmac Golden Age). The best was the Custom 5 for both clean and distortion.

I will look into custom5 as my squier tele is begging for soul
would this be good paired with a phat cat in the neck?

I thought the Jazz bridge was the most shrill, nails on a chalkboard pickup I've ever used. If your guitar is really, really dark it might be ok.

Re: Last chance to talk me out of SH-2B...

It would help if you would let us know what sound your after.

Re: Last chance to talk me out of SH-2B...

Sparkly Cleans, bluesy overdrive. I want vintage output, don't want to slam my amps front end or compress it either. The JB is too much for me.

Main contenders are:

SH-1B
SH-2B

Is the Custom 5 good on cleans? I don't want compression on my V32's clean channel. The JB is too woofy and middy for me.

I installed an JazzB yesterday. I changed out a 59B. You are right, the JazzB seems to be brighter but i hear more pure string. The cleans of the jazzB are clearer and more even - articulate is the right word.
The 59B is bright too and has the classic rudeness with played heavy.
I had a Custom5 too, but i would only go in this direction when i would use walls of balls amps (e.g. Marshall stacks, 5051 ...) - btw the clean are not its strongest side.

In short: 59 classic rock tone, Jazz more articulate and versatile / lower output

This is very interesting considering you like the Demon. Which, I think is that way but, I detect none of that with the jazz.

Sounds like the SH-2B might be what I want, I just hope it's not shrill in alder with maple neck.

I found a deal on some Dimarzios:

Air Classic
Virtual PAF

Probably not as good as Duncans though?

I've had the same experience with it, although I've never tried a Demon in a guitar that wasn't maple. In one mahogany super strat, I've tried: JB, A8 JB, Jazz bridge, A2 Jazz bridge, A4 Jazz bridge, '59 bridge, Full Shred, C5, CC, and the C8. The Jazz bridge was the brightest, and it's uncompressed, so when you dig into the upper strings, it can get pretty harsh. I think that it would probably sound best in a bigger maple/mahogany guitar, like what Jolly does with his Les Paul with Jazz pickups.

BTW, the JB with a subtle de-mud mod is the one I kept in that guitar.

Re: Last chance to talk me out of SH-2B...

Guess the '59 is the safest bet then....:newbie:

That brought you down from 99%? I would wait to get a few more opinions on this. We've all tried the Jazz bridge in different guitars, and I've certainly never tried it in alder or with a maple fretboard.

Re: Last chance to talk me out of SH-2B...

I still have a few days before I order a new pickup. Probably place an order on Saturday or so....

Hello!
I think the Jazz model will be too trebly, so I recommend the '59 model.
