Last day of xmas break = last builds...

Although I do have another on the bench that should take me a few minutes to debug (gotta pretty good idea of what's wrong).

Context: I have a backing band now and I use 4 pedals:
-footswitch for my Amp (which I built in a 1590b enclosure which is the standard zvex-size-boutique thingy);
-A snark tuner-pedal (pretty much 1590b size, although not as rectangular;
-a home-made boost (1590b enclosure again);
-a home-made TS-808 (1590b).

I'm not a big pedal user (I love building them for the challenge and what I learn from the process but don't use them that much). What I hate even more is lugging them around/plugging them and all the space they take (I love coming up on stage with just a guitar and a cable, having only a footswitch in front of me).

All in all now, that's four 1590b size pedals for a "pedal-board". Small for most but too much space and fiddling with connexions for me.

My solution: reduce and resize.

-Resize: I've built a new footswitch in a 1590A enclosure. Smaller, no need for anything bigger really, especially since it'll be stuck to the board, no stability issues.
-Reduce: Built both a new boost and TS808 in a 1590BB enclosure. Smaller than two 1590b connected, save one jack connection and one 9v connection;

Therefore, I went from 4 pedals to 3 and reduced the size of the "board"...

Here they are:

Boost+TS808 combo:

Acid-etched with no extra color or paint except for the clear-coating. That way it'll still look nice if it gets chipped.
Green led for the TS808 and yellow for the boost.
No asym-sym clipping switch but I socketed the 3rd diode so if I ever wanna switch back to symmetrical clipping, it's just a matter of pulling it out and putting a jumper in the socket.

And I know Kamanda's gonna ask for a gutshot so here it is:

And the footswitch:

Same principle: no paint, just acid-etched with clear-coating.
No gutshots Kam but come on, it's just a dpdt switch, a led, a resistor and 2 wires in there, use your imagination... ;)
White led, which I almost never use.

I need to send you a pm... I've always admired your work and I have an idea or two I want made into reality hehe.

Re: Last day of xmas break = last builds...

Thanks for the kind words!

I tried using color knobs (I really wanted to use differenb colors for both effects) but no matter what the combination it always ended-up looking cheap and toyish:.. Viva black!

I really like the acid etching! The gut shots are awesome, and that important part looks exceptional, but you sucked me in with the art haha! Thanks for sharing!

I can't draw to save my life but I'm glad you like it.

The guts could still be a bit tidier but it's never that easy and you always find neater wiring routes once everything's done and you're looking at it after you've plugged it in, it works and don't feel like working on it since it's all good...

Remind me to snap a pic of the inside of my Hit Kitty Oxblood one day; you wanna see a sloppy wiring job? I will show you sloppy!

But, the pedal's got the goods, regardless!

Re: Last day of xmas break = last builds...

I'd really appreciate that if you can find the time...

Stil, makes gou realize that a good soundin pedal remains good soundin whether it's elegant or not on the inside (as long as it's built to last).

Cheers!

That's really nice! I'm trying to fit that last pedal on my board, and I really don't want to buy a bigger board... I feel your spatial concerns, just on a different level. I wish I could go and resize my pedals like that though.

It's really not that hard but again I get that doing electronics is not everyone's cupotea...

I really like those dust caps for the pots. Where do you get them?

I got a batch from Smallbearelectronics. If I remember correctly, they're 0.09$ each. However, if you order your pots from Tayda electronics, they're included with every pot, which is cool.
Smallbear: 1$/pot + 0.09$ for the DustCap.
Tayda: 0.49$ /pot including the dustcap.

Smallbear has solid-shaft pots which are really cool, while tayda has split-shaft pots.

You do the math as to where I buy them from nowadays... ;)

Another cool thing:)

Thank you!

Great work, my friend!!

now we need a pic of the completed pedalboard!!!
