Re: Lava Cable Coils....
I own a number of coil cables and my number one complaint about the Lava is that the coils are very tight and the cord doesn't stretch as easy as other coil cables, which makes moving around more difficult as the cord drags against whatever it's attached to (amp, pedalboard). If I remember correctly it has 32 or 35 feet of cable coiled into something that's about 6 feet long so it bleeds off a fair amount of top end. I believe this was intended as it was meant to replicate the loss of older coil cables with an improved build quality.
I have a Bullet Coil and my number one complaint with it is that it generates a lot of triboelectric noise when drug across the ground. It sounds pretty good and stretches the easiest of the ones I've owned, but it doesn't contract as quickly as the Fender below... handy if you want to move around a lot although not quite as tidy as the Fender cable. I think this is another 30+ foot cable but it doesn't bleed off as much top end as the Lava.
I have a Fender Premium Koil (the thicker, black one) and it's my favourite. Nice sound, low noise stretches easily yet contracts quickly. It's great for use with a pedalboard as it lets you move around without the cord becoming a tripping hazard. I think it's 25 feet of cable so the treble bleed is fairly tame.
I also had one of the regular Fender Koils (the thinner, white one). It's junk. Don't even bother.
I think the Fender is the best option on smaller stages where you're restricted to moving less than 10-15 feet and the Bullet Coil is better for larger stages as it easily stretches out further. With the Lava, if you're 10 feet away from your amp it won't even be touching the ground... you can probably get 20 feet of stretch out of it, but your head better either weigh a ton or be tied down to the cab.
