Re: Learned the Hardway:TB-4 JB w/ cover.

Just a thought - does it have to be perfect? I say that because I had a set of Duncans in my 2003 Standard and they lines up fine and had no adverse effect. Neither did my Rios.

No it doesn't. It has to be a off a country mile to have a material impact

This guy will make you a custom pickup ring to fit a wider spaced pickup. Might want to try that before you send all those pickups back.

Dave is a great guy and A JCF member, the parts are top notch. don´t hesitate, just buy ;)

Re: Learned the Hardway:TB-4 JB w/ cover.

The string/pole pieces alignment issue is really not that big of a deal as i've said before. Having a standard spacing pickup on there with the low E and A not lining up would have little or no effect soundwise. I already know this. Also, i could just get a couple of new unnotched saddles for my ABR-1 so I can move the low E and A closer to line up with the pole pieces with the new location of the notch. My rant here is really about the "Oversized" SD Trembucker that didn't really have to be "Oversized" to have a wider pole piece spacing. Even on a Floyd equipped guitars, the mounting ring is "Standard" which will fit "any" of the humbuckers out in the market (not the Trembucker of course which requires you to use the supplied flat, thin/black only pickup ring and remove the matching one you have on your bridge which might have a different color/type/tapered.) The stock bridge pickup they come with are also "Standard" sized even though the pole pieces are noticeably wider apart to line up with the strings. I could just imagine the cost to SD production on having completely different sized baseplate, bobbins, magnets (maybe), pickup cover. I'm talking about molds and jigs to make the Trembucker, the mounting ring supplied which won't be necessary if its a standard sized pickup (this has to cost SD some money too), etc. They could've been using their stock standard sized parts to make a Trembucker. The only thing they needed to do is punch the holes on the bobbins in a different location for the wider spacing.
I'm sorry for all my bitchin' and ranting and such and I thank you all my forum Bros for reading and the replies. But don't you think this make sense? :nervous: :naughty: :burnout:

Thank you for this link rspst14!! I really appreciate it. However, the 5 pickups are going back and i will have them exchanged for the standard SH-4 JB with nickel covers. I really didn't want to have any modifications on any of my LPs. That website is heaven sent though! :bigthumb:  Thanks !!

Re: Learned the Hardway:TB-4 JB w/ cover.

I've had no trouble with trembuckers fitting the mounting rings I got from Warmoth. Granted, it's a close fit, but they do fit.

Having said that, the pickup in question is uncovered. I just ordered a trembucker cover, so I'll have to see how that goes when it arrives. I might find myself shaving down the pickup ring with a razor blade.

That picture doesn't show the bridge real well, but after looking at the guitar up close, I have a feeling I'm going to have to shave 1 mm off of either side. No big whoop (I hope): just a few minutes with an exacto knife and some sandpaper.
