Leather dye on satin poly

Re: Leather dye on satin poly

I have a poly neck that has tinted itself quite dark after 10 years of playing. I've made no special attempt to put the guitar in the sun, or do anything fancy to it. I kinda preferred it when it was brighter coloured to be honest. Just give it time, play it a lot, and don't worry about the rest.

I did this on my most recent build. my finish is tru oil. I used angelas leather dye to dye the top but then used it again over the tru oil. the effect is pretty cool as depending on the light you get a lot of different guitars! you can see in my build thread here: https://forum.seymourduncan.com/sho...d-one-of-my-guitar-builds-here-s-a-video-demo
I'm not sure how it would work on poly, but it should be the sm. You would have to put more poly on top of it tho, or it will likely come off with any alcohol cleaning (alcohol based dye... if you use water based dye then sm w water). worse it may come off uneven and you don't want that.
