Left handed telecaster player - pick up advice needed please. Hot for te

Hi all,

I am a left handed tele player and am a little frustrated at the limited number of pickups that are available to me.

I would like a slightly hotter set up as I play more rock and alt rock music. I want something slightly fatter than normal tele pickups but not something so overly compressed so it takes the dynamics out of my playing.

The hot for tele pickups have caught my eye.

The STL-2 are flat poles so I assume that it should be ok in a left handed guitar. Is this right?

I have no idea if the STR-2 would be suitable because the poles are covered by the brass plate. Can I use these?

If anyone has a suggestion for any other picks that might be suitable for a lefty handed player, then I would really appreciate your advice.

Many thanks,
FP

Welcome to the forum.

Slightly hotter with equal length rod magnet polepieces, eh? Seymour Duncan calls that the STL-1b Broadcaster. Fender offers the Custom Shop '51 Nocaster pair. My money-no-object favourites are the SD Custom Shop '53 Tapped Tele Lead and BG1400 models.

EDIT - For full adjustability, consider the G&L ASAT Classic pickups. (Made in USA!)

I've never had any issue with any RH pickup in any of my (lefty) guitars. A lot of hotter pickups either have symmetrical radius poles or flat.

The only issue I can see is if there are two different alnico grades in one pickup, then you'd need the proper LH version.

I can highly recommend the Fender Custom Shop '51 Nocaster set, they sound amazing, haven't tried the SD set though. Anyone try the Quarter Pound set for the tele?
