Lefty Question

I was wondering if there were any left-handed versions of the telecaster pickups such as hot rails available ?

Also a little help choosing a pickup would be nice :D. I have a lefty version of the standard telecaster and I need a little more power. The stock pickup is to thin and doesn't provide me with the sounds I need. Is Hotrails strictly a metal pickup ? I would like to be able to go from something like led zeppelin to a thick, tight distortion.

Is it a lost case ?

Any help would be nice.

Re: Lefty Question

i think a right-handed hotrail will work fine in a lefty guitar - there's no tonal difference with rails pickups AFAIK.. the only problem would be getting it into the tele bridge, a problem i've never considered before!

as far as led zeppelin goes, the hotrail might be a *bit* too hot and dark for some of the led zep tones.. lil '59 for tele would suit led zep better (but not 100%), and it is quite a tight pickup, all told..

also, welcome man :D

Re: Lefty Question

As long as the pickup you are buying is not staggered like some singlecoils, there's no difference if you use it lefty or not.

Re: Lefty Question

One trick I use (alot) is to mount my pickups opposite on my pickguard....In other words the wiring faces away from the bridge pickup instead of towards it...This allows me to use staggered pickups the correct way...

The pickup still sees the signal the same way if you wire it up correctly,so it doesn't matter how the pickup sits within your pickguard....

Re: Lefty Question

Thanks :D
So what you are saying is that if the pickup doesn't have these 'poles' like the normal singlecoils then it should work? If it lookes is like the hot rails and EMG pu's ?

Pickup and these things aren't exactly what I know the most about :D

I've used the JB Juinor and the Lil 59 on my lefty pickguards...Just get your pickup heights dialed in and you'll be fine..The pickup doesn't care how it's mounted, providing it's wired correctly....If you want to buy the stagger single coils, mount them opposite on your guard...You may have to remove a bit of wood(Very little)to get the neck and middle to fit right, but I've been doing it this way for years, plus I don't sell any of my lefty guitars...I just keep adding to what I already have,so know one can complain about the very minor hacking under my pickguards... :laugh2:
