Re: legato/tapping stuff to play
I can't hate b/c that one is pretty tricky unless you spend time with it. I HIGHLY suggest you spend some time with your good buddy the metronome and slow it down at least to 70%. My teacher taught me a good trick, play each note minus the pull-offs in time, and when you get that down, add the pull-offs. It worked wonders for me on the last little hammer on run at the end of the crazy train solo. That song is in I believe 140bpm and I've been able to play it at 180bpm using that method. I know that's not too impressive, but I was a rthym metal player for a long time, so I felt like I climbed everest when I finally did it.
Last but not least, practice, practice, practice!!! Don't just practice, practice right. I highly suggest shredaholic for online tips/lessons. If you are unsure about your tech, get a good teacher and take a few lessons. A good player will always be able to point out your weaknesses right away. It's very intimidating at first, but he/she will always lead the right way.
BTW, welcome to the SDGUF. It's an addiction. The longer you stay here, the more money you will spend on gear
edit: If you want an excellent tapping exercise, learn Eruption (EVH), the tapping is honestly the easiest part if you have any tapping experience at all. It will help you speed up your pinky on your fretting hand a lot also. Hot for teacher has another good tapping excercise too. I personally hate that one b/c it's a little stretch for my small fingers and I hate the pattern. After you get those down, there's several 2/3/4/5/6 finger patterns I can give you that are a lot of fun.
