Les Paul body thickness?

Hey guys, does anyone know (or is anyone willing to measure) the exact thickness of a Gibson LP body? I have a project in mind and I'm trying to figure out if the body is cut to the proper thickness, or if I'll have to thin it out. Thanks.

Re: Les Paul body thickness?

Don't know for sure ( i don't have a caliper handy), but my LP Standard is about 1/4" thicker than my Hamer Special. :burnout:

Re: Les Paul body thickness?

On a GIbson: JJ´s measurements are correct.

BTW I just put a set of calipers to my Studio Gothic and a customer´s LP Custom, and they´re 100% identical in size, I´m not too sure on the Studios being 1/8" thinner...

Re: Les Paul body thickness?

Just measuring the edge, including binding, my LP Custom comes in at about 2".
That's not counting the arch in the center of the body.

Re: Les Paul body thickness?

The thickness on Les Paul Studios vary by year. Normally they were full thickness, but sometime in the mid '90s they were thinner than a regular Les Paul in an effort to reduce weight

Re: Les Paul body thickness?

I just checked my 57' reissue at the point you wanted and it's 1 and 15/16 inches thick (from the back to the top of the binding).

Re: Les Paul body thickness?

A bunch of conflicting stories? Interesting.

I just measured one with my caliper and it came in at 1.938. Thats not counting the arch.

Re: Les Paul body thickness?

A quick followup question, anyone know the thickness of a Les Paul's maple cap?
