Left ...

The LP on the right doesn't seem gibson enough for me. Oh and I have a major dislike for LP's without the toggle ring (R/T) ... not to mention I prefer to see a pickguard on burst and transparent Les Paul Customs, even with a figured top. Solid colors except black I don't really care either way

Re: Les Paul cosmetics - which looks better?

Les Pauls always look sexy to me, so I don't think you can go wrong with anything you deicde to do.

Re: Les Paul cosmetics - which looks better?

I'd use crome mounting rings, zebra humbuckers, and a custom rosewood pickguard.

Re: Les Paul cosmetics - which looks better?

Here's the actual guitar for comparison, the pickguard was already installed/drilled.

Re: Les Paul cosmetics - which looks better?

Hmmm, maybe just a different guard? I'm trying to visualize something a bit flashier than the black, like maybe a pearl or black pearl? Might be too busy with the flame top though. Of the two choices you provided, I prefer the one on the right :).

Re: Les Paul cosmetics - which looks better?

Yeah, I have the open coil humbuckers with no guard on my LP, and it is a more modern look for the highly figured tops that everyone is looking for. It just adds to the appeal of the quality by showing that there's nothing to cover up under there. When you have a classic burst, it does look good to go for the pickguard, though. I go for the right.

Re: Les Paul cosmetics - which looks better?

I like the look of the pickguard on the left-handed one and I hate the way zebra pickups look on any guitar, so I voted for the left.

Re: Les Paul cosmetics - which looks better?

I like it as is, if at all take the pickup covers off. That pickguard and knobs compliment each other. I think it really looks good as is.

Taking the covers off won't help, the whole point is I don't like Gibson stock pickups and plan to replace them. So with that in mind, I'm curious to hear more opinions.

Thanks

Actually, looking at it again, I think it does look pretty sick as is.

Get some gold covered duncans for it and you'll be set imo :headbang:

Re: Les Paul cosmetics - which looks better?

The neck is going to be a Seth. The bridge however, is a Wagner Fillmore and they aren't availible in gold.

Re: Les Paul cosmetics - which looks better?

I don't think I'd like gold hardware on that axe anyways, too similar in color to the top, you need a little contrast IMO :).

Re: Les Paul cosmetics - which looks better?

Neither. I think it's like putting aftermarket parts on a 61 Cadillac.
If it were mine, I'd wrap up the stock gold pickups, and install Gold covered Duncans, and leave the pickguard on! And pleeez god, don't put checkered flags or a racing stripe on THAT one! :laugh2: :laugh2: :laugh2:

Re: Les Paul cosmetics - which looks better?

I vote for the right one.... Gotta love the zebra pickups..... :32: I just don't dig the look of LPs with pickguards....... :earl:

I was planning on adding some double black replacement pickups to my butterscotch 68RI, but someone suggested removing the pickguard and going with zebra. So I made a little mock-up and, well, personally, I think I'm leaning towards the left, as it looks like a traditional LP custom - which do you prefer?
