Les Paul Deluxe with P-90's

Just wondering if a P-90 soapbar would fit in the place of a mini-hum in a Gibson LP Deluxe? If not, is it because the hole is too large or too small? I know where I can probablly make a deal on a Goldtop Deluxe, but I'm not a big fan of mini's. I have been wanting a Goldtop P90 guitar and I thought this might be a cheaper way to go.

Thanks

The mini's(3.174" tab end to tab end) are narrower than soapbars(3.3") and would require routing to body.

Re: Les Paul Deluxe with P-90's

That's not true. You won't have any problems, the cavities are the same size. The original Deluxe's had P-90 routings, and the mini's were mounted in P-90 covers that were routed to fit. Many Deluxes have been retrofitted with P-90's and many Soapbar equipped guitars have been fitted with mini's. They just have mounting holes in a different spot.

Re: Les Paul Deluxe with P-90's

I thought that they only fit into the P90 cavity because the minis had the double ring thingies... Just what I thought, guess I'm wrong

The only difference between a P-90 LP and a mini-hum LP is the mounting bracket.

Here's my old 71 Deluxe that now belongs to a forum member:

Here's the mounting bracket in my 59 Special- The two inner holes in the center are for mounting a P-90- the outer holes are where the mini-hum mounts:

Nice looking Deluxe! I'm curious why you top wrapped the D string only?

If you look really close, you'll see the E is top wrapped as well.

I'd like to say I did it for tonal reasons or for playability reasons- but the truth of the matter is I had the guitar top wrapped, I had broken both the D and the E shortly before I decided I was going to change strings and just didn't change those two strings.

I was hoping the current owner would post some more pics...

Re: Les Paul Deluxe with P-90's

i almost stuck some P90's in my LP Deluxe.... in the early 90's it was hard to find an Mini humbucker replacements.... i didn't like the look of the Duncan Mini Firebirds but that is what i ended up with anyways... Dimarzio even didn't make those soapbar sized humbuckers at that time for some reason.....

I had to get the magnifying glass out to see the E string. :smack: Thank you, for letting us know your reasoning.

I did it to my old Goldtop Deluxe; I picked up some old P90's from Angela and they went right in, no problem.
