Les Paul Guys! Please Explain!

Re: Les Paul Guys! Please Explain!

Oh I completely understand upgrading product lines every year, but by definition a "reissue" implies an exact copy of the original. Just funny to me. :)

Re: Les Paul Guys! Please Explain!

There was a series of Reissues built in the 80's? That were pretty sweet.

I sometimes refer to guys who get all stuck up on "R" Les Pauls (often Blues Lawyer types) as Rtards.

In 1980 Gibson did the Les Paul "Heritage Elite". They were pretty limited and in terms of construction have very little in common with a Historic/VOS guitar and even less with a real burst but they are good guitars, had Shaw buckers factory and most of them had nice tops.

As for your head in the sand Rtard remark a Historic/VOS Gibson is much better in terms of build quality than "standard" Gibsons and IMHO are well worth the extra money...and being an Rtard is much better than chasing "vintage" Les Pauls when you're talking about pancake body Norlin builds...

I think Gibson over the past few years has started feeling the pain of the small builders that do burst clones and get all the little details right...some of the things that come with a Historic/VOS guitar are very important to the tone...long tenon, kluson tuners, PAF style pickups, 500k pots, ABR-1 bridges, etc...other things...flat head guardplate screw, truss rod condom, etc...not so much

That said, folks want their reissues to be as close as possible and as Gibson learns more then change more.
