I have an ESP EC-1000 and I've never been this impressed with a guitar before. It beat the hell out of my Gibson Les Pauls for near half the price. I got mine for $700. It comes with Duncan '59 neck and JB bridge, tonepros locking bridge and tailpiece, earvana compensating nut, schaller locking tuners, a really nice amber sunburst finish, abalone inlays and binding all around the body, neck and headstock. If it had the name Gibson on it, the price tag would be $3,000+.

I've got a '78 Yamaha SG that almost out Pauls a Paul. Plays and feels just like a LP, sounds great with a Custom in the bridge and a '59 in the neck.

Edwards was the name of the LP copies Bones and Thames were raving about. Search for some of them. They are MIJ and are pretty much exact copies. The one Thames got had a one peice mahogany body and was gorgeous. Do a search and youll find his raves.

Ibanez lawsuit ?!! Most of them feel like a plank of plywood... and most of them have bolt-on necks... not a good choice. Check for Burnys, japanese-Tokais and Grecos. If you're as lucky as me, you'll find an Edwards... :smokin: go for it !!!

Aria back in the late 70's used to make a pretty nice Les Paul reproduction from what I remember. I hear many good things about Tokai's (Robert Fripp's been using them since the 80's and he loves 'em).
The Epiphones are the type you have to try out a few of them before you find a real gem ( I got lucky with my Epi G-400 that it turned out to be a good one!).
Dillon Guitars make a pretty nice LP repro at a reasonable price. I've even seen a Guild LP type axe recently w/ P-90's that sounded beautiful (can't remember the model to save my life though)
The Malden Karma series are pretty nice too: http://www.maldenguitars.com/karma.htm

I prefer the Artist. I used to have one that I traded for a couple of useless computer gadgets ages ago :smack: (one of my bad decisions ever :banghead: )

ever seen the squier series 24's? theres one with a mahogany body that looks promissing, never played one, but if i was ever gonna get something LPish i'd prolly go for that, because a) its a fender so you get that classic feel and b) because its cheap enough to drop whatever pickups you want in. You'd still come out cheaper & better than a mid-level epiphone

IMHO, if you're talking strictly Les Paul, there are really two that come to mind that are currently in production...
1. Epiphone Elitist
2. Hereitage C-150
The argument against the Elitist is that it's over $1,000 and you can get a Gibson Les Paul Studio for much less. The argument for the Elitist is that is was designed for the player who wants a Les Paul Historic series guitar (R8, R9) but cannot afford $4000.

Id go with an Agile then swap out the pickups I got an AL-3000 Slim Profile Neck and its an amazing les paul copy has just about everything you could ask for other than SD pickups in it. I got mine for under $450 including shipping an a case. You cant go wrong getting one its certainly one of the best playing and best looking LP copies.
