Les Paul Silverburst

Re: Les Paul Silverburst

I think 79-80. And a GC reissue special in maybe 03, plus this year from Gibson.

Epi has them from 06 also.

Hope you didn't expect accuracy....But that's pretty close.

Re: Les Paul Silverburst

I looked around last night, and I saw some from as early as '78 to as late as '85.

Can SOMEONE PLEASE confirm the production years?

ONE of you guys has to know this.

That was Sam Ash, and those had a cemetrical burst and solid black back as opposee to the original's teardrop shaped burst all around.

Also, they are back in prduction right now with the original teardrop burst shape as a les paul custom. But also, there's the les paul classic custom that is a silverburst and has the more cemetrical burst. I actually prefer that over the tear drop.

Here's a pic of both that I took last week at Centre City Music in San Diego. Classics on the left, customs on the right.

Re: Les Paul Silverburst

I remember when you couldn't give one of those away! Now they're worth big $$$$!!!!!!

Re: Les Paul Silverburst

Seriously.

They're ugly guitars. They were ugly guitars 25 years ago, they were ugly guitars 15 years ago, they're ugly guitars now.

I'm waiting for someone to bring up how awesome Fender's Antigua finish is.

My understanding was that the finish of the original ones significantly altered the tone of the instrument in a manner which made them very undesirable.

For the record...I still refer to Antigua as "Snot'burst."

Re: Les Paul Silverburst

"Back In The Day" around 15 years ago- IIRC a LPC in good shape was going for around $700-800. I remember those things sitting around $500 and not moving. I remember considering one, buying another Deluxe instead, just too butt ugly.

Re: Les Paul Silverburst

I'd still rather have an all black or all white custom than the silverburst.

Its the classic look with block inlays...

Re: Les Paul Silverburst

Hey guys, I really want to know the original production years of the Les Paul Custom Silverburst.

I've heard 78 - 85. Can ANYONE confirm this?

Re: Les Paul Silverburst

I have seen 335-S models (not talking ES-335) in silverburst, and it just looks awful without the body binding to crisp up the lines. I think silverburst feels harsh on the eyes, but I dig the "black and white" image, surrounded by a full-color-world look to them, as well.

The older one's didn't stay silver either. When the silver oxidizes it turns snot green. Snot-bursts. I think they have changed the silver base on the newer ones so they won't green quite like the old ones did.

Great Pic!

Re: Les Paul Silverburst

Much like the Raiders, and Ace Frehley's costume (my other favorite Silver and black things - they always were and always will be cool!

In the pic, #3 from the left: Tasty!
