Les Paul wiring modification

I modified the wiring on my LP to split volume pots when the switch is in central position.
Since then the tone pot of the neck pu is not working well anymore, it works only from 10 to ~2, below 2 it sounds like in 10 position (I measured the resistance of the pot and it has the same behaviour).
I don't think the pot is broken because I changed it for a 500k and the problem is still present, neither the capacitor.
Is this problem related to this kind of wiring? I mistook something? Maybe tha fault is in the pick up?
I didn't try to restore the original wiring beacuse I was tired of soldering.

(sorry if this is not the most suitable section for this topic, it's my first message)

Re: Les Paul wiring modification

The fact that it works from 10 to 2 pretty much rules out the cap and almost the pot.

The only thing I can think of that could cause this is that the wiper of the pot (connected to the center lug - the part that moves when you turn the knob) is disconnecting from the resistive strip inside the pot at a rotation from 2 down to zero.

A bent shaft on the pot can cause this, as can a pot with a warped resistive track. Another possibility is some kind of non-conductive crud on the inside of the pot that causes the wiper to ride above the resistive track.

I would clean the pot first. If that does not fix it I would replace it.
