Les Paul with Invaders. Pot question

Hey guys! new to the forum. what i wanna ask is, should i consider putting 25k tonepots to an epiphone les paul custom (shes got 500k by default) ?
Shes already wearing an Invader at the neck and I'm considering a Black Winter for her bridge.
I wanna get my sound to go as dark as possible but not to ''mud'' it.
I want the basses to really explode but i wanna keep them tight, not to let them leak all over the place.
Thanks!

PS: I'm also considering swapping the bone nut for a graphite one. Would that give me anything towards the darker sound?

Re: Les Paul with Invaders. Pot question

Now this is an assumption because I (along with I'm guessing most people) have never used 25K pots with passive pickups.

It will turn your tone to crap. You're better off trying 250K pots first and if that's still too bright for you you can always wire a resistor to the pot to effectively achieve a 25K pot.

But there's a reason that you don't see people using 25K pots and passive pickups together.

The INVADOR will MELT DOWN your pots anyway.

I wouldn't bother :)

Re: Les Paul with Invaders. Pot question

I would stick with 500k. I think 250k it darken it enough. 25k would be tooo much for any pickup, even single coils. I have used 100k for single coils, but those were a very diff design, low output and very bright. Stick with 500k and use your amp to dial in your tone. If you must then 250 k, or try getting a 300 k pot.

Just get a different guitar.

In all seriousness, 25k pots are for active pickups, not passive ones. You're not going to get dark and tight at the same time. Use your amp and your bassist for the darker tones.

This, i bought my Viper secondhand and the previous owner swapped the EMGs for a 59/JB set. He didnt swap the pots though, it sounded very crappy. Try 300k or even 250k first.
