Les Pauls with Floyds Q

So I let my kids play with my guitars whenever they want. None of mine have Tremolos, since I can't seem to be bothered with using them... Anyway the other day I was out with my oldest, getting her skates sharpened. There was a MGR ("Music Go Round", a chain of cool used gear stores here) so we stopped in to see what they had. My girl wanted to try a guitar "with an arm. WHy don't your guitars have arms, daddy?" :D

She picked this out herself, I didn't prompt her at all! She also tried a white V, I didn't take pix of that though.
Anyway after a bit she saw THIS

and was playing it for a while. She's since asked to go back and play it again. :fing2: Apparently it's an EPI of some sort, I don't know enough about all of them to know which one. Do they even make bolt-on neck LPs anymore?
I have a Gibby Studio I don't use as much as I could. Perhaps I could trade, since I don't have the cash to just buy it. Anyway, what should I look for on a Floyd-ed LP? I know squat about Floyds, the one guitar I had with one (a Kramer Focus, so it probably wasn't a "real" FLoyd anyway) I could never get it set up right, I had to get a pro to do it.
So yeah, does anyone here have one of these things?

Never used one but... Seems like it would solve the problem.

Epi has a very low line guitar with a bolt on neck, but no trem avail on those. Epi is making great guitars these days! And the one she is playing was basically Epi's answer to the Gibson model made for Alex Lifeson. The trem is going to be decent quality, but def not an Orig Floyd. unless you abuse the bar, (which based on your not normally using them, I doubt you will be a whammy fiend) it shouldnt be problematic for you. However, if you DO, go to the darkside and become a bar riding monster, then you may want to upgrade to an orig floyd. But Thats really getting ahead of ourselves.. haha Do it!!

Also, cute kid Bro!! Congrats!! (Also, pretty cool she is interested enough to notice things like that!) Two of my girls play..

Re: Les Pauls with Floyds Q

No comment on the Epi with a Floyd, but if you had an original 80's Focus, it had a real-deal OFR.

And great job teaching the girls to play! Teaching my daughter right now.

Re: Les Pauls with Floyds Q

Thank you guys.
We went back this weekend, but the LP was gone
She did take a liking to THIS

WE'll go check out GC to see if they have any FX-es. I pretty much have to trade something for it, I gots NO $ right now. That Floyd for LPS looks mighty interesting though... Just not the $3k titanium one

Re: Les Pauls with Floyds Q

Oh yeah, my Focus was one of those $99 cheap-0 ones, would THAT have had a "real" Floyd? Or just the high-end ones?

Re: Les Pauls with Floyds Q

I'd lerv a Floyded LP!
:headbang:

The only one I've been able to put my hands on was also an Epi,from the Gothic line I think.
Called a Nightfall(?) or something like that.It was pretty sparse spec-wise,really comfy, tho.

Mebbe see if GC's got a used one floating around somewhere?

Re: Les Pauls with Floyds Q

Hey man, I hate when my kids try to press the floyd bar down exactly where they shouldn't : perpendicular to the strings.. ouch.... Now glad your kid at least likes some rock'n'roll related instruments. Mine does all this "afro-DAB" vocal auto-tune songs all the time (teenager), at least she bought a fancy Metallica t-shirt (by accident I guess) :)

prolly not.. the old Japanese Kramer Focus' had orig floyds. (And the USA Kramers of course)

Re: Les Pauls with Floyds Q

You could check out some bigsby equipped guitars & see if she takes a liking to it, seems she likes the machine look of the trems. You could then get any epiphone or Gibson studio model and put one of these on it http://www.vibramate.com/index.php

Re: Les Pauls with Floyds Q

I've seen many Carvin 25.0 single-cuts with the OFR setup. Great bang for the buck if you can find used.
