Anybody have experience with the G12H30-55Hz? It seems like it might fit the bill, but I've never personally had the chance to try it in person

All of these replies hit the mark 100%..BUT..if ya wanna just quit pussyfooting around, spend the extra money and snag yourself a Eminence 'Red Coat -Red Fang'. You really have no idea how great this speaker sounds broken in. It has the voicing of the great Celestion Alnico Blue very well down pat.IMO.

As much as I love those speakers, they are bright and chimey like a bell. Very clear, and not piercing, but bright.

Maybe an Eminence Swamp Thang?

i have a red fang, great speaker but not as chimey as a blue and a little more muscular. bright though, not what the op is looking for at all. they do make an alnico version of the crex called the canis major but i havent tried it. too much crap already. which means i have a g12h, g12h-55hz, crex, texas heat, g12m, v30, and used to have a swamp thing.

the swamp thing may be too dark for the op. i stand by my "get either a crex or texas heat" statement

This might sound strange since they market it as a modern metal speaker, ala Slipknot, but I'd try a Celestion G12K100 (or older version G12K85). It is a well-balanced speaker with a big, tight low-end and a nice sizzle in the high-end. Mids are present but not pushed and the high-end isn't overtly bright. It's a great speaker. I have it paired with a V30 and love that combination.

i have a g12k100 and i dont love it but i can see see how it would work well with a v30. the high end bothers me on the g12k

The Texas could be an alternative to the Rex, though I've yet to come across anyone say anything negative about the Rex

I tried a Texas in an Avatar cab and I found it to be way too dark for me BUT it would fit the bill if that's what the OP is looking for. Maybe it was my imagination but it seemed to be a bit squooshier also, and it was not as loud/clear as the Swamp Thing i replaced it with. That suggests that you could get more breakup out of it which may be why a lot of blues dudes dig 'em.

It's alnico too. Not ceramic.

I have a Celestion Heritage G12H30 in one Deluxe Reverb and an Eminence EJ in the other.

Do you have any clips of the EJ 12? What kind of amp are you using? I've never heard this speaker myself. Is it an alnico too magnet or an alnico II magnet?

i do find a difference in the response between alnico speakers and ceramic speakers but it could be the design rather than the magnet, im no expert on such things.

tone controls only do so much to shape the tone on many amps and the amp in question only has a tone control. the right speaker makes a huge difference

Couldn't tell you. It's probably alnico 5 since that's more common.

I don't have clips of me playing it unfortunately.

I do have clips of me playing the Celestion G12H30 though and it's my favorite Celestion.

I have two Deluxe Reverbs on stage for this gig. Both with G12H30's, although now I have the EJ 12 in one of my DR's.
