Let me see if I understand this(amp related)

Please excuse my ignorance on this topic, but i've only been playing for about a year and don't know much at all about amps, effects, and all that.

Right now I have a Line 6 spiderII 15watt practice amp. It has 4 models(clean, crunch, metal, insane) on it and some effects like tremelo, phaser, etc...
This amp is OK but after hearing a few other small amps they sound way tighter and smoother, and just overall better than my Line 6.
So needless to say, i'm probably gonna sell it and try something else like a maybe a Peavey, Crate, or Vox, Tech21

So what i'm asking is, if i go with another amp that does NOT have the models like for crunch, metal, etc. will i need pedals to achieve these sounds like a DS-1 , MT-2 and the like?
Thanks for your help, sorry to babble on too much if i did. Cheers :beerchug:

other amps still have buid in efects but pedas are way better. But if you liked the handling of the spider you shoud consider getting the spider II 30 combo.it has a 12" speaker instead of the 8" one in the 15 and sounds so much more powerfull and tight.

Tech 21 - No pedals needed. Peavey and Crate (Classic and V Series are two nice tube amps) - Can get good rock crunch but an overdrive pedal will get into hard rock territory. The Vox valvetronix will not need a pedal either. Go try some out. Those are 4 pretty good choices for where you are.
