My god guys ive seen the light! I was never a big old school fan of music...
well here goes the story and then my gear question
For my university class.....yes i said university class, i am in this class where we listen to rock tunes and then memorize the date and artist its a bird course kind off. But to be honest i was kind of disliking it alot becasue he mianly plays to us 1950 tracks which all sound the same. Until he played us a led zeppelin track....Communication Breakdown...... and it was awesome. Pages guitar solos are nuts, and i love the tone! Even if it was only a taste of Zeppelin im hooked. Its awesome, yes i still like my pop punk bands and all, but wow this stuff is refreshing for me. Anyways on to gear
My gear is crap, i dont even own a decent amp...a ten watt practice amp made my marshall and a MIM fender strat with a hot rail in the bridge with heavy bottom and skinny top ernieball strings.
How would i be able to nail that class vintage tone without truly breaking the bank? I was thinking for pick ups i would switch out my hotrails for maybe a full 59 trembucker in the bridge and have them route my guitar for it? For Amps im only gonna go with a combo amp i cant affrod a stack of any kind. What Amp would i need? I would prefer them to be marshall or mesa boogie of course with tubes. And for my strings would i need to take on a lighter gauge of strings inorder to be able to play that fast and accurately? What about picks? I use tortex .60 right now but should i use a thicker pick in order to solo better?
