Let's brainstorm some H/S/S Strat pickup combos

Re: Let's brainstorm some H/S/S Strat pickup combos

After much trial and error I've just settled on the perfect combination in my Silhouette Special, which is Alder / Maple and that is....

JB Bridge
5/2 single Middle
Kinman 62 neck

your choice of neck, but I happen to LOVE Kinmans as a neck single..

I have 250 volume and tone pots and I must say I'm really surprised by the JB ( it's the 1st time I've ever tried it ) .. it sings beautifully and splits really well with the 5/2.

Awesomely versatile combination. :friday:

I currently have a noiseless setup. I'm not interested in doing that anymore. In my old age I've started gravitating toward more traditional, "pure" tones, and I have yet to hear a noiseless pickup that comes close the the tone of a "noisy" pickup.

I dunno
the Fender Vintage Noiseless is pretty awesome

its the middle pickup position in the RG4CarvinComplete clip

SD AlNiCo 2 Pro Neck
Texas Special Mid
DiMarzio Fast Tracks 181

That's all I need.

Well I'm glad you like them, but my experience with Fender noiseless pickups (everything from the Lace Sensors on up to the current VN and SCN pickups) has been far less than stellar.

I had a Strat that came with SD Classic Stacks. Those were actually pretty cool, but not nearly as cool as a good set of regular single coils.

Re: Let's brainstorm some H/S/S Strat pickup combos

I would think the CUstom with SSL1 would be an odd combo? I am only going off of what I have read here and experienced with the Custom. In terms of matching levels of output to some degree, at least.

Does the SSL5 make for a beefy, large sounding neck pickup? I get this feeling that an A5 bridge pickup would work really well with the SSL1/SSL5 combo for somereason, only based off what I have been reading over the years. I am looking at swapping out my HSS pickup set for soething more agressive/fatter sounding myself, more leaning towards modern tones.
