Let's discuss these Gibson humbuckers with PAF sticker

Re: Let's discuss these Gibson humbuckers with PAF sticker

Just opened another of his guitars and it has the 57 Classics. There is a white sticker indicating the date and pickup type and they also have the PAF sticker like the ones we're discussing.. The DCR on these measure 7.81K for the neck and 7.58K for the bridge in circuit.

57 classics have changed a few times over the years as far as i can tell. my 2009 versions are 7.5k for 57c, 8.2k 57c+ both have paf sticker and nothing else

The ones in my 2017 SG have this white sticker too. I don't know when they started that, but it hasn't always been that way. Are the pickups in question still in the guitar? If so, how do they sound vs this known 57 set?

Re: Let's discuss these Gibson humbuckers with PAF sticker

No, they were pulled for a new set.

Given they are wax potted it eliminates Burstbucker 1, 2, 3 and pretty much narrows things down to 57 classics or Burstbucker Pro. The differences being BBP (A5, mismatched coil windings) and 57 Classics (A2, balanced coil windings).

Both the BBP and 57+ both have currently listed specs of 8.3k DCR, so unless I can determine what magnet I have or measure individual coil resistance, I have no idea how to narrow it down any further.

Re: Let's discuss these Gibson humbuckers with PAF sticker

If you had them in a guitar it would be very easy to tell the difference. Given that my 2006 BB Pros have the 2nd sticker and another poster's 2009 57s did not, I'd say they're probably 57s that got wound on the hot side.

Re: Let's discuss these Gibson humbuckers with PAF sticker

Makes sense. But you know it'd be a major **** storm to advertise them as 57s and be wrong about it. There are folks out there who would never let an honest mistake get by without drama.
