my pick is the million notes a minuit, but not one of them says anything mess that vinnie vincent made on boys are gonna rock...that thing just sounds sloppy and pointless, not to mention ,the tone sucks in my opinion.i know vinnie can play better than this.

No Sleep Til Brooklyn - courtesy Kerry King with the Beastie Boys

My solo on the UGD Jam CD. :D

John Mayer's solo on Fall Out Boy's cover of Beat It was pretty sloppy and noodly.

I heard it... I was not impressed. I expected better out of him. :dunno:

The problem with the Beat It solo is that EVH nailed it so perfectly that unless someone does a dead-on cop of it, it just sounds wrong somehow.

Eight Miles High - The Byrds
Cult of Personality - Living Colour
Talk Dirty to Me - Poison

Talk Dirty to Me - Poison

Took long enough for him to pop up in this thread.

I recall a funny Guitar World article that described his big solo off a live record Poison had. It said that it was like watching your 13-year old buddy try to play Eruption and instead of him saying "No wait I can do it better" every time he screws up there's a stadium of idiots cheering him on. :laugh2:

the one i played at guitar center for king of the blues competition

Re: lets go in reverse, whats the worst solo you've ever heard?

you should really listen to it, you can almost see it happen.

Re: lets go in reverse, whats the worst solo you've ever heard?

The solo in Carly Simon's You're So Vain. Really, bad tone, bad phrasing, no point. Just bad.

Mincer - I protest the Talk Dirty to Me selection. That solo is pure awesome for what it is. Perfect example of fitting the solo to the song. An actual bright spot in CC's career.

Just Like Mayer/Fallout/Beat It - Crappy solo, crappy band, crappy song. Perfect.

Re: lets go in reverse, whats the worst solo you've ever heard?

I knew Aceman was gonna rush to Poison's defence there.

In regards to other people who normally play awesomely and aren't me, I don't like the solos in about half the Rage Against the Machine songs. Tom Morello, i love ya and what you do on a good day, but some of those guitar sounds just get obnoxious after 1-2 listens.

Re: lets go in reverse, whats the worst solo you've ever heard?

Not sure about the worst but there are plenty of bad ones...any number of live Jimmy Page solos post about 1970...

Quite a bit (actually most) Slash bores me to tears...partly because of the note choice but also his tone is just horrible...

Almost any Zakk Wylde...I wish he could go 8 seconds w/o a damned "ping" tossed in and in the WORST places...and again...that tone...terrible...

There are lots more but I have a feeling these alone will get me in hot water around here...

Re: lets go in reverse, whats the worst solo you've ever heard?

Well I sorta like Slash's tone but it does get repetitive. When they both play the same solo over and over and over and over and....

Re: lets go in reverse, whats the worst solo you've ever heard?

almost every note Kerry King has ever palyed.

Re: lets go in reverse, whats the worst solo you've ever heard?

I nominate the second half of the Suicide and Redemption solo, from Metallica's Death Magnetic, by Kirk Hammett.
It's the pinnacle of the downfall that started from the Black Album when it comes to lead guitar work in Metallica.

Not only because it's a lesson in tasteless wah abuse, cliché blues licks and bad tone, but also because James Hetfield plays the first half of that solo and he runs circles around Hammett!

Kirk Hammett is a cool guy, I started playing guitar because of him, but come on.

You Got To Fight For Your Right To Party.

next....just about anything by Neil Young.
