Neal Young is a helluva song writer, but man, there is one solo of his (Cinnamon Girl?) that grates on my ears so much that I have to turn the song of when the solo starts to play.

Yeah, I like some of his songs too. You'd think he'd realize his shortcomings and hire a good lead guitarist. Better to do that than massacre every solo.

Can't say there was a lot of innovation, or experimentation, in his career. Just the branded pose and branded tone. Very nice tone though... :friday:

If you like Appetite for Destruction, check out Iggy Pop and the Stooges: The Weirdness

GNR was a great band but it was the sum of its parts. I'll be hated on for this, but Axl Rose has put together a great reincarnation of GNR that is a better band and performs better than GNR did back in the day. Unfortunately, since it's not the original lineup it'll never get any respect. I saw the new version in concert and it was like being punched in the belly for 2 plus hours straight.

My vote is for Avenged Sevenfold's cover of Paranoid. Synister Gates is an awesome guitarist, but that solo was junk.

Lots of you have said Kerry King's Beastie Boys stuff, but ALL his solos in Slayer sound like that!
I don't mind it, it's really easy to play along to, since you don't need to worry about being in tune or anything.

I don't care what's being played... if you're out of tune, you suck. Period.

I agree that these new guys play very well, and that their performance level is good,

BUT

Well...3 guitars sound powerfuller than just 2...and the new guys are more technical than Slash - Izzy/Gilby...Axl's voice is good now, but not as good as before...And i think some of the solos are just too shreddy, i like shred but when you change a rock&roll solo (like Slash's) and put a shred solo on a ROCK AND ROLL SONG! i doesnt sound too good for me

I wasn't really being serious, but it IS true, you can play whatever you like pretty much during a Slayer solo and it fits. Bum notes just add to the dissonant feel. :lol:
I don't get why KK gets all the bad press either, Jeff plays the same way!

I also don't like anything Zakk Wylde does. First off, spell your darn name right. Secondly, lotsa ping notes and artificial harmonics ≠ ass kicking solo. Some people ahve that perfect sense of song and some don't.
My counterexample to Mr. Wilde would be George Harrison. He wasn't that technical, he wasn't that fast but has anyone ever changed one of his solos when they cover Beatle Songs? Nope. He got it perfectly the first time around, and people could tell.

el chupe..do us a favor and google tongue and cheek humor.i was kiding about trading my lady for ANYTHING ,and she IS way outta my league.that being said..i cant find a whole lot wrong with zakk,but this is an opinon thread and you are certaily entitled to yours.im also entitiled to dissagree with it..im an american..i have that god given right.lol
