Let's see some telecasters( telecasters only)

Re: Let's see some telecasters( telecasters only)

My hands and body never adapted to the Tele shape or style. I always love what other people can do with them, but I can't make them sound good. I love looking at them though. Some very good looking guitars in here so far! Keep the pics coming.

Re: Let's see some telecasters( telecasters only)

I agree that for me at least the Tele is far from ergonomic. In Fenders I've always been far more comfortable with a Strat. But somehow I've wound up with a handful of Teles too. Here are mine.

Found a near-twin of my Japan Aerodyne to give my son; here's a pic of the two before I sent his out:

Esquire Custom Scorpion with set neck, born to shred. I'm not a shredder but for $175 this one was too cool to pass up.

the Green Hornet now has a Zhangbucker Paul Bunyan bridge and a semi-Stratlike Twisted Tele neck pickup:

This one is set neck also, I put a Duncan QP set in after the pic was taken, to give it more beef

A "Strelecaster," Tele-shaped but really an HSS Strat in terms of functionality, including trem.

A purple MJT partscaster build awaiting tuners for final assembly. Not sure about the pickguard. I have RioGrande Muy Grande pickups for it.

And finally an odd duck which really can sound quite Tele-like when desired; the staple neck pickup is a real gem.
It's named Nightbird, for Alison Steele (and the tune Hendrix wrote about her).

I see the uploader is up to its old trick of rotating some of the pics sideways. I have no idea why it does that sometimes.

Does anybody know?

At least it doesn't do it all the time anymore...

Re: Let's see some telecasters( telecasters only)

And since I don't like the middle position in Teles, I'm thinking of Esquiring it up with a snappier bridge pickup, a new pickguard and just make a mean RNR machine out of it.

I too dislike the middle switch position with modern (i.e. late '60's and up) Tele wiring. Not a good tone IMO. And I love me some Esquires, as you can tell by my post in this thread.

But before you commit to a full-on Esquire, there is something you can do that incorporates one of the coolest features of the Esquire, but without losing the neck pickup of the Tele. You just wire it so that positions 1 and 2 are like an Esquire (position 1: no tone pot, position 2: tone pot). And wire position 3 one of two ways, to either give you the neck pickup straight to the jack, or the neck pickup through the tone pot.

The only tonal reason to do an Esquire instead of this is if you want the vintage-style bassy bridge pickup in position 3, or the Eldred (cocked wah) bridge pickup tone in position 3.

Could this help for ideas about your issue

I’m excited to try the half parallel and half out of phase .

Did you mean to respond to me? I don't have an issue I'm trying to solve, so maybe you meant to quote someone else.

You said you disliked the middle position on the tele . Right ? Just a different idea on some wiring

I do, but my post was a response to someone else with a problem, not me trying to solve a problem that I have. I suggested to him my favorite solution for those who dislike the middle switch position.

O ok then I simply misunderstood

Re: Let's see some telecasters( telecasters only)

I love Telecasters, though somehow never got to buy one. I tried some and they felt good and sounded fantastic. So I don't know really. Maybe it's one of those things that is better to stay in dreams...
Beautiful instruments here, but my fav is the one from Customshop California Beach with a bittersweet story

Wow, your Green Hornet looks a lot like my Tele.

Babizc Full Contact Telecaster bridge
DiMarzio Super Distortion/Area - T - coil split on the bridge
Spetzel locking tuners
Braided cloth wiring with oil and paper cap.

My other Tele has a SD Hotrails in the bridge
There is a TV Jones Classic Plus bridge pickup in the neck
Locking tuners
Coil split in the bridge
Babicz Full Contact Bridge

Another option would be blackguard Tele wiring:

Japanese neck. I fell in love with the body and ordered it from some place in Italy.

I would love to see an A/B video for these 2.

Re: Let's see some telecasters( telecasters only)

Here's my #1 and #2 (don't ask which is which, it changes weekly) and a distant cousin who's come to live with us permanently.

MIK Schecter goldtop PT body with Fender MIM neck, Duncan '59 set, 2 volume controls with bridge coil split and neck phase reverse. (Soon swapping bridge pickup out for a Custom/'59 Hybrid).

'05 Agave Blue MIM Standard with Wilkinson compensated bridge, Duncan STL-1 and SM-3 pickups.

Re: Let's see some telecasters( telecasters only)

Here are a few of the Teles I've built:
This is one of the first ones I built. Just your basic Tele in fluorescent orange.
View attachment 91451

This IS a Tele, but I cut out the upper bout, left off the pickguard, chambered the body (swamp ash), added belly cut and forearm relief.
View attachment 91454

This one is one of my favorite guitars. My wife calls it "The Denim". Chambered with belly cut, mahogany body with maple cap, Tele/Stratocaster blended pickguard. Only weighs 6.0 pounds.
View attachment 91455

Next I decided to laminate maple, wenge, padauk, and purpleheart into this chambered Tele again with belly cut. I even created a multi-laminated headstock veneer,
View attachment 91456View attachment 91457

This one is my wife's favorite so far. Mahogany chambered body with belly cut, ash with padauk and wenge cap. I decided to do something a little different with the edges...in addition to binding, I also routed the edges.
View attachment 91458

One that I'm currently working on. Mahogany chambered body, maple and purpleheart cap (with accents of wenge), belly relief, Fretboard is maple and purpleheart laminated with binding, abalone dot fret markers. The back has a maple/purpleheart/maple stripe down the center (it can be seen in the pickup routs). When it's finished it will have a light burst of purple around the edge to approximately match the color of the purpleheart.

So, some of these don't look like your typical Tele, but the design actually is based upon the Tele shape with some minor (and some major) modifications. Notice how I chopped down the lower horn...I figured that it was just useless weight.
I can’t keep my eyes off of the one that is your wife’s favorite. That guitar gives me goose bumps...
