Let's See Those Acoustics!

Re: Let's See Those Acoustics!

Not one I have, but I would really like to have a Rainsong Black Ice or one of the new Rainsong Smokey . I think the carbon fiber is gorgeous and they are supposed to be more impervious to heat and such.

One of the Guitar Centers here in Atlanta had a couple of the Rainsongs and it was very interesting. The tone was better than I thought it would be and the neck was very comfortable. Cool guitars but I'd rather save up a bit more and get a Martin.

Martin D-28, Epiphone AJ-100, Cordoba C5-CE, and Johnson rosevine engraved resonator

Pic sucks....makes the grain flip flop in a weird way.

The story with the Epiphone is that it was handpicked by a rep as a gift to a Sam Ash salesman who sold the most Epi's that year. Another employee accidentally sold it to me for $100. It plays and sounds as good as a Gibson Advanced Jumbo.

As of yet I still don't own an acoustic . At some point I probably will ,I have looked at some. The one I do like is the B20 Norman.

Re: Let's See Those Acoustics!

Took some time this last week to venture into some acoustic guitar repair. A brace had come loose from the top on "Jewel" (my 2005 Ovation Celebrity Standard CC045 12-String) a couple of years ago and I haven't played her since. Some wood glue, some patience, and some clamps got it all fixed up. I got some strings on her and she plays (and sounds) every bit as good as I remembered!

Collings OM2HG, my #1 (even over my Gretsch electrics):

When people ask you "what's the one material thing you grab when your house is on fire?", my answer is "This." I do the majority of my songwriting on it and the 000 sized body just does everything well: fingerpicking, strumming, rhythm, lead.... it projects.

Re: Let's See Those Acoustics!

What are the reasons for getting an acoustic with/ without a cutaway? Does the cutaway facilitate playing on higher frets? Does the cutaway affect the guitar sound, the box being smaller?

Basically for upper fret access. I find it nice to have every once in a while, but for the most part I'm not on that part of the neck when playing acoustic. My first acoustic guitar (see below), which I've since 1984, does not have the cutaway, and when I'm playing it I seldom miss it.

"Betty" (early '80s Applause AA-31)

I'm of the opinion that any sound loss due to the lesser volume (as in volume of space inside the guitar) is so minimal as to be almost unnoticeable with a cutaway. The guitar above has a much fuller and richer sound than my Ovation 6-String (see original post), but I would attribute that to the fact that this guitar has the full-depth bowl, while the Ovation has a very shallow one.

2011 Taylor W14ce - Ltd. Flame walnut back and sides, Sitka top. Been looking for a long time and I fell in love with this at first sight. Haven't had time to take my own pics yet, these are from the sale. The sound is incredible.
