Let's see your rare guitars!

Re: Let's see your rare guitars!

WOW !!! Those are some cool guitars! Thanks for sharing every one.

Re: Let's see your rare guitars!

This is an 82 Fender 'The Strat' in a rare sapphire blue- it has a subtle metalflake in there. Stock brass and gold hardware, with master vol & tone, and a 2 position switch that reconfigures the 5-way for seriously odd switching. Made of northern hard ash. Most of the ones I have seen (and there haven't been many) are red or lake placid blue.

Re: Let's see your rare guitars!

You win, I think :). The guitar by itself would've qualified but, having been owned by the man himself... Didn't he cut up one of these when he made 'the Log'?

Yes, it seemed like he bought these in bulk and chopped away at will. In the auction, this was just about the only archtop he hadn't cut up (except for his 'players' from his Vaudeville career). I don't know for fact, I can only guess why - either he didn't think it sounded good enough to experiment with, it sounded too good to experiment with, or he just didn't get to it (which would be unusual - Les himself always claimed he "got stuff done"). One hint I have is on the case it says, "Plain bird. Very good sound. Great action." - all of which is true.

Re: Let's see your rare guitars!

Most everything I own is pretty much "different".
My acoustic is a Washburn LTD 1994 which was 1 of only 250.

Re: Let's see your rare guitars!

These two sisters are built from the same plank of Honduras mahogany. The headless was designed by me and built by a friend in 1993/4, and I had some input with the construction. I also got to keep one of the body blanks from the plank, and a couple of years ago i used that to build the guitar on the right.

So they're both one-offs, which I assume is about as rare as something can get.

Re: Let's see your rare guitars!

^^ Special indeed. Crusty signature single cuts, it don't get more exclusive.

@Ashurbanipal: These are some talented twins!

Limited edition, Ashurbanipal hand-assembled 59/C, you got it for a steal .

I was wondering that myself, given that he modded practically everything! I'd assume he'd be more likely to chop up the ones that sounded 'blah'. It's a nice touch on the history of the guitar; thanks for sharing.

Re: Let's see your rare guitars!

Hey Erik, I'm pretty sure that Dennis Kline did the paint job on your guitar. I'm sure you've seen me writing about it, but he was my cousin's best friend and the guitar in my avatar is the very first guitar painting he ever did.

Yup. Dennis did in fact paint this one. It has his name and the year right at the start of the lower horn.

Re: Let's see your rare guitars!

1984 Flying V `83 w factory graphics and Kahler PRO.

1988 or 89 (dated it years ago and just forgot over time, I think 89) Charvel Model 6 with a one-of-a-kind aftermarket paintjob I refer to as "Blue Nebula"

*edit* DUH, now I remember why I mark my cases.. it`s an 87 :D

1990 Charvel Strathead, limited edition Europe only run of 75 trans blue and 75 trans red. AFAIK also has the distiction of being the very first one of the run, SN 7400.

2940_2855382359589_1325716427_n.jpg

ca 1992 BC Rich Wrath, one of AFAIK 11 total ever made, and AFAIK the only neckthru Singlehum among them. NOT a factory completed guitar (finished the build myself just a fdew months ago), but factually a genuine USA BC Rich manufactured instrument that only needed fretwork, finish, electronics and setup to be complete.

The only thing not original on any of these are the Duncans in the V.

Now, I'm going to need the addresses of everyone who's posted on this thread. Just to make sure that these guitars are safe.
Thanks for the offer, but so far my Colt Home Defense system has been more than sufficient :D

Re: Let's see your rare guitars!

Exactly how rare, I'm not sure, but certainly not common. Either there are very few of them, or their owners are keeping them very well hidden.

Yamaha MSG Standard

Re: Let's see your rare guitars!

This is the only thing I have that I guess is pretty rare:

Patrick Eggle 'Climaxe' Guitar

(you can't see it very well in that light but the headstock says Patrick Eggle: Guitar Builder)

These were the 1st instruments that Patrick Eggle made before there was a Patrick Eggle Guitar Company to speak of, just him in a barn doing everything himself.

The original idea was for Eggle to be the builder, hence the headstock wording, but have the brand of guitars be 'Climaxe'.

I've never seen another 1 in person, and the few I have seen on other forums have all been different spec/materials/finishes etc than mine and I have no idea how many were built. It was essentially a prototype for what would become the Berlin model, but they were a lot more PRS-like than these earlier instruments were, more ornate so to speak.
