Let's Talk About Relatively Extreme Attenuation

Re: Let's Talk About Relatively Extreme Attenuation

I think its more akin to having a girlfriend that I'm crazy about but nobody else can stand her.

It's not self-destructive... It's bold and beautiful and not everybody can handle it.

Your bold and beautiful may be someone else's smack addled ho.

Re: Let's Talk About Relatively Extreme Attenuation

I duno. I think for the drug analogy to work it would have to be an amp that keeps exploding and needing replacement parts, thereby losing value constantly.

This thing is very valuable, just challenging to deal with.

Re: Let's Talk About Relatively Extreme Attenuation

dont neuter your beasts!

I don't think 20 watt amp is the solution either, not enough umph for a jam or practice if you are playing heavy rock.

get an ORange thunderverb 50 like me, it is the perfect solution for this ;)

Not enough umph? A 20watter will take your head off if not careful. Our drummer has a tiny terror that I use for practice sometimes and that thing is F-ing loud. I run it at full tilt and I have to use ear plugs. Now compared to the 5150 he has it's not as loud and the gain is not as saturated but it gets the job done.

Re: Let's Talk About Relatively Extreme Attenuation

So I had a gig last Saturday. My amp repair guy is also my bassist and he brought a cool little outboard master volume that plugs into the FX loop. It did almost nothing even when it was turned all the way down.

The sound guy said, "That thing is retarded. Does it have a half power switch?" Had to use it turned down pretty quietly and use my Double Rock for distortion.

My amp repair guy seemed surprised to hear that I had read anything negative about Weber's products and said he'd used them with good results for a long time.

Now my only dilemma is that a Mass 200 for each of my monster amps would cost me about as much as one Hovercraft Dwarvenaut. So do I tame the beasts or just invest in something domesticated?

Unless your playing outdoor venues a lot or huge arenas you might as well get a different amp cause your going to keep getting told to turn down. Go ahead and get yourself the Dwarvenaut.

Re: Let's Talk About Relatively Extreme Attenuation

How about asking Weber if they make a MASS with more than one input?
No, it'd be better to buy two. You might as well not get the Dwarvenaut; you'll be unhappy with the volume possibilities. I would go MINIMUM Falcon if I were you. Better to find an Andromeda or Baltar. The Caribou may work too.

its all in the eye of the beholder

I did not say that it will be very loud.

I said it would not have as much umph for heavy rock. that is my opinion. I need wattage for low end. you can have a piercingly loud sound that does not have much umph and low end and does not really meet the criteria for heavy rock in a practice setting or unmic'd live setting.
