Lets talk Boutique amps

Hey all,

Im looking into some boutique amps, im looking for preferably a dual channel amp, great cleans, great gain tone (moderate gain tone), take pedals well, have an effects loop. I was looking at Bogner Shiva's or Engl Screamers . . . . .

What ya'lls thoughts??

Re: Lets talk Boutique amps

The Engl is a great amp (I have one) but a different beast to a Shiva (which is 4 times the price). It's not ultra high gain, has a shared eq and is effectively 4 channel with a switchable reverb and volume boost.
The Shiva is twin channel with separate eq and can have either EL34 or 6l6 power section. Actually, listening to the clips on the Bogner site, the 6l6 Shiva sounds similar to my Engl although the Engl is a tad brighter. You really need to try them out to see which one is for you.

Yah, you like your screamer? What kinda tones does it have? good lead tone and a solid clean tone?

Just when you think you're all set on guitars, amps come into your Gasesous World. I might have more amps than guitars at this point.

Amps: 4

Electric Guitars: 4

Acoustic Guitars: 3

Nope, more guitars than amps still. That'll change. The good news is that all my amps are my creations. I still need to sell the Ampeg J12T that my son stole.

Also, look at Soldano, Hughes & Kettner, Rivera, and VHT.

I think this is the LEAST I've ever seen you say about high end amps Joe. You feelin' ok?

Re: Lets talk Boutique amps

Hey gearjoneser, since you brought them up I'm wondering if you can give me some more light on Rivera amps, or anybody else that stumbles across this page. I've seen and heard good things about them but I've never looked into them seriously, seeing as how the closest dealer is an 8 hour drive.

Re: Lets talk Boutique amps

ENGLs are great amps, and the screamer can pretty much do anything. I tried one not long ago and was extremely impressed about how each of the 4 channels were very usable and sounded terrific! Really terrific!!! Cheaper than a bogner too ;)

Just a little word...it may not be worth much...but they are very tasty amplifiers. My uncle has one (model??), and it sounds great. Surely a slowhand guitarist's amplifier. Sparkling tone with just enough bite.

I usually have a lot to say, but this is one subject where a forum search function or brouse through harmony-central.com reviews will give you more info than anything I can type. :)
