Lets talk tube mics, specifically the tube!

Hey guys,

just had a mate contact me - he's bought a 12ax7-base tube mic and he wants to upgrade from the chinese thing in there.. what's the scoop?

do i recommend what i like in guitar preamps? (JJ 12ax7..) or do different criteria apply?

what brand and model? I'm just curious.

You might want to contact the manufacturer and see if they have any recommendations.

...and I would not suggest JJs for a tube mic. I have tried it. You would generally want a very bright tube with extremely low self-noise and microphonics.
