Liberator: misplaced original instructions sheet

I purchased a Liberator many months ago, and ended up not using it for the project I was working on. Now I'd like to use it for a new pickup change project but I can't locate the original instructions sheet that came with it. I know I can find various wiring diagrams on the site for combinations of pickups that use it, but I wanted to spend some time going over the detailed documentation for just the Liberator itself. I can't seem to find it on the site. Is it available somehow?

Many thanks in advance!

Welcome to the forum!

You know, other than the wiring diagrams, like you said, and the various videos, I can't find that either. Anyone have a PDF of that or a scan that they can share? It would probably help a lot of people.

Re: Liberator: misplaced original instructions sheet

Under wiring diagrams, search for your configuration and under the last drop down named Accessory / Pot choose Liberator. There's about four different diagrams under there that I'm finding. Since they don't have a liberator diagram for every possible use, you may have to choose a more 'standard' pickup configuration to get one to come up.

Yeah, I found those, but isn't there some sort of instruction sheet that comes with the Liberator? When I got mine, it didn't come with one, but it wasn't in commercial packaging.

This. Like I said above, I know about the various configuration diagrams, but I wanted to recover the Liberator-specific document that came with the unit, not a diagram of one for a particular configuration.

Re: Liberator: misplaced original instructions sheet

Note: very much appreciate the ideas. I’m not having problems, in that I’ll not have any issues using the stuff I’ve found to get this mod going. I just wanted to pore over the full diagram of the unit and it’s annoying that I managed to misplace it so I was hoping to find a replacement.

Thanks again!

Liberator: misplaced original instructions sheet

Well, a couple years back someone posted a scan of the liberator doc that came with it, but he had spilled coffee or water on it and couldn't read it. When we searched in the wiring diagrams, at least one of those liberator drawings online is the same one they send with the pot. In fact, I think the 'stock' fender SSS 1V 2T is one side and the 'stock' gibson-ish 2H 2V 2T was the other side of it, if I remember correctly.

Re: Liberator: misplaced original instructions sheet

Well, as luck would have it I found the instruction sheet!

In case anyone else could use a copy I scanned it and I'll be putting an ecopy away someplace safe. I was going to share a copy here but the interface says the limit is 100kb and I don't believe a PDF at that low a resolution would even be readable. Is there someplace I cans send a copy so the admins here can make it available? I can post up a Dropbox download link but that would be limited to how long I kept the file in the linked location and that's not a reliable long-term source.

You can also screenshot the PDF by hitting "Print Screen" and then paste it on Paint and then save it.

Re: Liberator: misplaced original instructions sheet

Thanks; yeah, there are lots of options, I just wanted to be able to share up a print-ready file at 300DPI. For purposes of sharing here I just ran the scans through Photoshop and pared them down to a couple of 100K jpegs. Hopefully these aren't too dinky to be readable. A limit of 100K for images is rather tight.

Thank you for this! It will help a lot of people, including me, who didn't get any instructions with mine.

Re: Liberator: misplaced original instructions sheet

You're very welcome!

As I mentioned above, there'll be no issue relying on the combo-specific diagrams on the site—or extrapolating from one that's close—but I wanted the luxury of studying all the documentation while I planned my wiring layout.

The Seymour Duncan Co. is extremely lucky to have end-users that would gladly do for free the job that their paid for employees obviously do not.

I'm sure the top management are indeed very happy campers! ;)

To be fair, had this question been sent in to Customer Service, they would have sent over a pdf of the instructions. It was just asked here, first. This forum does serve to answer questions that end users would know, and to provide a community for pickup enthusiasts to talk shop and learn things. It has nothing to do with the people at SD HQ not doing their job, though.

Agreed. I like to ask about stuff like this in the open in case others come to such a forum with similar questions. Customer service would certainly have been happy to help but that would have happened "behind closed doors" and I wanted to turn to the community, first. IMNSDHO community is part of the value added of a brand to me. :beerchug:

Well, if we want to be FAIR, then explain this:
https://www.seymourduncan.com/accessory/liberator-500k

Open this link, then press the "i" symbol, where the literature of ths product should've been. What do you see?

"This Tooltip text is set at the Accessory Options page". Meaning that this option, called a "placeholder" is EMPTY. Where the literature about the product should've been.

Anyway, now my curiosity is piqued, so off I went to the "Accessories" Page, and what do I find?

Nothing less than three error code lines. And the product nowhere to be found.

The site's been broken since August 2015. This is just ONE small example of the hundreds of errors I've since found.

So, I stand by my statement, supporting it by producing hard evidence. You know, just to be FAIR.

Re: Liberator: misplaced original instructions sheet

I know.
The issues with the website have been discussed here a lot. There are a lot of issues. This doesn't mean that people who work in Santa Barbara don't care or are bad at what they do, though. This is not what this thread is about, though.

Re: Liberator: misplaced original instructions sheet

I think the web site was done by a contractor. The contractor clearly weren't electricians or musicians, which is how some of the wiring diagrams got messed when translated to the newer style. There are 1000s of pages and I don't think anyone knowledgable could QA all that.

As an addendum for the Liberator, if you go to the wiring page and in the first box for "Pickup Type" choose "Liberator" (it's counter-intuitive, but it works), you'll get 11 diagrams for the Liberator, which I believe is all there are on the site.

The old site used to have some of the same doc they put in the pickup boxes available as PDF for printing. It would be good if they could (re)upload a directory of PDF versions of all the instructions that are put in all the pickup boxes.
