Life has changed. Les Paul pickups for cheap?

Re: Life has changed. Les Paul pickups for cheap?

I'll just restate that. If you have a good amp, a good player, and the pickups balance the guitar well, you can do anything with them.

You're right. The amp is a practice amp, but I consider it has a relatively nice tone for what I want. Now, I just need to upgrade the player. =P

If you want cheap but sound great, try the over wound PAF Golden Age pickups from Stewart McDonald. I have a set in an Epiphone and they sound fantastic @ less than $100 for the pair.

this reminds me of when my daughter was on the way.
spend the money on an acoustic. electric practice will wake up the baby and piss off your partner.

Actually their A2 Parsons Street PAF's are better than their Golden Age line. Specs on them are great.

That's a good advice. My acoustic is getting duat at the moment... It's a nice opportunity to get it and play it for sometime.

I reluctantly second this. Having a 16 month old at home. I use the acoustic more. Even those small 1 watt fender amps are loud with the baby sleeping. I got one of those and they are nice with a head phone.

I would think that an electric guitar played with headphones would be quieter than an acoustic. (OP mentioned he has a practice amp, those usually have headphone jacks.)

+1. Some multi-effect pedals have headphone jacks too. Much quieter than an acoustic guitar.

Since you've talked about it. A while ago I was considering getting something like those vox amplugs... I have an interface and can use the computer to play, but something simpler would be nice too. The amp itself it's a simple way to play quietly. And yes, playing an unplugged electric is way quieter than my acoustic. To be honest, i play a lot of times with the guitar unplugged.

My first though is that you should think about getting a good e.q. unit, so you can get the very best out of what you already have.

For the price of the Tonerider's (or less) you could look at a set of handwound SIN pickups (from Chris Carter) on ebay...they're awesome.

Agreed. When my daughters were born I played my pocket pod most. (Yes, I know, its a pocket pod, not exactly a cool piece of gear) 11rack is also a good choice for a new dad. But my pocket pod was purchased off of ebay for $20. The acoustic was far too loud for my first daughter to sleep through. My second daughter however falls asleep better when she can hear someone, so playing through an amp at reasonable volume helps her nod off. I am not complaining.

I posted this in the GFS thread, but I'll put it here too.

I installed a VEH in the bridge and GFS Classic II A2 in the neck in an Agile LP. You'll get a quick glimpse of the pickups at 1:10 here:

I don't know if that guitar was used on the album but it's definitely being played on the tour.
