Re: Lightest?
Theres no easy answer to that question. The weight of a guitar body is going to be determined by many different factors. And truthfully Body "style" isn't really gonna be one of the major factors in determineing what will weigh less.
The type of wood generally will give you a fairly good idea what the weight will be. But thats not even really that reliable. Because two peices of wood cut from the same tree will have different weights. Normally the denser a wood is the heavyer it will be. And the softer a wood is the lighter it will be. But thats not even always true.
Like if you have two telecasters, one made of mahogony, and another made of Swamp ash. You can assume that the Ash one will be lighter. But thats not always gonna be true.
But as far as whice body style is the "lightest", Theres no way to tell. Cause like I said even if you made a bunch of bodys outta the same type of wood, even from the same tree. Those peices are gonna be different enough from eachother to make any measurements unreliable.
In my opinion, a Body thats really well balanced on a strap, tends to feel lighter. Even if the weight is much higher than that of a very unbalanced guitar. But that could be just me.
But if you wanna check out the general weights of different woods on different body types, Check out the "show case" section on the warmoth site. They list the body woods, and weights for each body. It should help give you a general idea....Ed
