lil '59 in bridge...what's next

So i added the '59 to my MIM strat, and now.. -jeez those stock pickups sound muddy, so I'll get a nice alnico2 pro flat (APS-2) at the neck. That i'm fairly sure of. What to do in the middle ? When getting this done i want to also take advantage of the splitting potential of the '59. So i'll have the shop put in the new wiring and push pulls etc. Sonic advantage to an expensive complete new pots, caps & wires? For the middle should i just get the APS-2 again, but reverse wound/polarity? What's with this reverse thang? What happens if it's just an ordinary wind? Are my stocks also reverse in the middle?

Will reverse middle still give my position 4 (and 2 once split) single coil quack?

PS is it worth the effort of personally putting those muddy '96 MIM strat pups into my 97 korea squire strat, or are they simply from the same box?

thanks
tom

Since the N & M combined tone on a Strat is my second favorite Strat tone (after the neck pickup by itself) I'd go for a RW/RP APS-2 for the middle position so that N & M tone will be first rate. I don't think the bridge Little 59 would be out of phase with it but if it is the wiring can be easily reversed on the Little 59. Good luck! Lew

As for getting the classic tone of a Strat M & B pickup combined: when using a Little 59 the tone will not be quite the same as the classic tone. It'll be a good tone but thicker and not as chimey. Lew

I don't know if I would try splitting a lil' 59. They aren't exactly like the full sized version. The result will likely be pretty thin sounding.

yeah, agreed.. it'd be ok in a total last-gasp situation, but you'd be better off winding down the volume in such a situation.. such a volume drop in tapped n full blast mode..

good choice! thankfully SCs are a bit less hassle to wire as well :laugh2:
