Lil 59: mini-review.

I'll keep this real brief, because I can't add much to whats been said before. I have two observations:

1. I'm surprised by how much this sounds like a full-sized 59. Which is odd, because thats what it was designed to do. The difference, to my ears, is about as much as the difference between having a tone control on "7" or "8", or maybe the difference between alder and basswood. Very subtle.

2. Point #1 above means that if one already has a 59 in a guitar, and especially if one has a pair in a guitar, it diminishes the need for another. It's a great sound in my Strat, but since I already have it in my Predator, I'll probably not leave it in there.

If you only owned one guitar, and it was an HSS or SSS configuration, I'd highly recommend it.

Artie, that is EXACTLY what i needed to hear. in my ESP, i have a single coil slot in the neck with a full humbucker in the bridge (a JB of course). I would love to put a full sized humbucker in there but i cant with the way the guitar is made. I have an HR-101 in there now but it doesn't do what i want it to do. I want my neck slot to sound like the neck of a les Paul (or pretty close). I think you have answered my tone quest.

I played a Lil '59 in the bridge position of my Strat for a couple of years, and it's a GREAT pickup if you're looking for vintage HB tone in a single coil size. It does what it says on the box.

Still have that pup. Just not using it currently.

Nice review, Artie...

It's noticeble that a single coil sized bucker has the same tone of a full sized bucker. I wonder how they managed to achieve it.
