Re: Lil59 in a full size humbucker?

Try AddictionFX. And I recommend a rough cast UOA5.

Re: Lil59 in a full size humbucker?

So do i need to take the pickup apart first? or can you guys tell me which pickup will just drop right in?

Ide prefer to just rebuild it with the new magnet in hand and ready.

Im confident i can do it, ive cut custom pickguards, installed pickups all the typical setup stuff i dont have any problems i just dont have tools to measure the stock magnet and ide rather take it apart once and have all the stuff infront of me to put back together.

Thanks for everyones help, i should of done my home work first with the full size 59 from the start. I just assumed the lil59 was a sort of mini clone of the full size and it sounded so good to me i just got one and didnt even think of them being different. Ill remember this for next time.

Re: Lil59 in a full size humbucker?

You don't have to take the pickup completely apart. Just unwrap the tape and loosen the bobbins just enough to be able to slide the magnet out with the assistance of a wooden match or something like that. Before you take the magnet out, check the new magnet against it to make sure you install it with the correct polarity. Also, be careful of where the pickup wires attach to the coil wires, you don't want to break them.
Then, just slide out the old magnet, slide in the new, retighten the screws, rewrap the tape and you should be good to go.

Re: Lil59 in a full size humbucker?

Dang you guys are good, i just installed that Alnico II Pro and i like it a lot.

Its a little raspy and harsh on the top end but if i roll the volume back a little it warms up and sounds just like the lil59

What can i do so that i dont have to roll the volume back to get it to warm up a little?

Its in a Fender strat with an S/H single volume with push/push volume/switch no tone.

Thanks for everyones help this is a nice sounding pickup.

Re: Lil59 in a full size humbucker?

You can also experiment with the tone cap. Don't be afraid to use that knob.

Re: Lil59 in a full size humbucker?

I kinda got rid of my tone knob because i never use it. I hate controls really close to the picking path i always bump the knob and the 3/5 way switch so i moved everything out of th eway.

I am using a 500K push push right now i may try a 250K i thought that the 250K just made the tone more dull quicker i didnt know it had any affect on the tone wide open?

If going from a 500k to a 250k pot is too much you can even just solder resistors inline. First measure the pot to make sure of what is its value exactly then i would do is set the knob where you like the tone, then measure the resistance after the pot. After that you can then calculate how much of a resistor you need to solder inline.
