TheArchitect if you really dont like them that much go and buy some dimarzios.

LOL...that's perfect! :laugh2:

Some people would whine & complain if they got em for free, personally I just ordered a set & can't wait to drop them in my 91' LP Std! :32:

The Seth Lovers that are currently in that rig will move on over to my 95' Hamer Studio, they ain't gonna leave my grubby lil' mits! Nothing is even in the same ballpark outside of WCRs and Wagners, and I'm betting ol' SD is gonna knock this one clean out of the stadium!!!

If Blackrose wants to step up and order 300 sets of a special Blackrose Limited Addition Alnico 2 Pro, would anyone even bat an eye? Would MF be upset?

Actually this is something I would love to do but the fact of the matter is that neither myself or 99% of the other Duncan dealers out there could afford to plop down $20,000.00 plus dollars on a one off pickup order and then hope they sell.

I guess we independant dealers have to be content with providing better service, more useful personal advice and larger inventories than the big retailers while they continue to get special attention from the manufacturers because they sell a large quantity of a few models. (This is not just a Duncan issue, it's most high volume products)

Having said that, if Musician's Enemy really went to Duncan with the idea and not Vice Versa then I have no issue with it. It would be cool though if SD actually created some limited edition pickups of their own that each dealer could get a few sets of.

BTW, if I did a limited edition pickup it wouldn't be an A2 Pro ... :laugh2:

A gold cover . . . with a black rose etched into the cover.

That would be killer. :32:

Re: Limited edition duncans at musicians enemy!!

John, I think you got my point, right?

Here's another idea. Wildwood, Music Machine and Dave's got together and had the Gibson Custom Shop create some special Historics for them. No one else got them. It took the buying power of three of them to pull it off. They came up with the CloudNine series (chambered, weight relief) and then they came up with the Refin 57 Reissue.

How about you and that outfit in TN and maybe another of the larger dealers come up with something cool and have Seymour make them for you guys. I'm not sure it'd have to be 300 sets, but it's an idea. It's all marketing anyway, right?

Re: Limited edition duncans at musicians enemy!!

i think one point that hasn't yet been brought up about these pickups being sold through musician's friend is that they'll be able to reach a broader range of people this way.

i'm sure there are plenty of people out there that will absolutely love these pickups that wouldn't be able to find out about them otherwise.

not everyone buys their pickups from independent online dealers. while this is unfortunate, it shouldn't stop these people from being able to get their hands on something unique. in fact, if these were only sold through independent dealers, i'm guessing that at least a few sets would remain on the shelves for quite some time.

please note, i'm not advocating big business. in fact i prefer supporting the small guy. i just think some people are being a little ridiculous about all of this by jumping to conclusions and forming some harsh opinions.

anyway, i'm a little drowsy right now so hopefully what i've typed is coherent enough to get my point across. if not...well....meh.

EDIT: hahaha....that's all i typed?! jeez! i think i had the text window open for a good twenty minutes. i guess i really am tired.

Most of you nay-sayer guyz aren't thinking clearly, if at all. This is the USA, land of free enterprise (or at least freer than most 3rd world dumps).

Thanx for offering the 50th Annie pups, Semour - I bought a set, it goes in my safe, and when I need some loot I'll sell it and make a schweet profit.

So, IMO, this ain't about the tone, it's about the opportunity to make money, plain and simple. If you don't see that, yer blind. YMMV.

If its all about the money, I think you'ld do better investing in a high-yield mutual fund, or a CD. I can picture the eBay ad now:

Seymour Duncan pickups: made exclusively for Musicians Friend :laugh2:

The stock market is a gamble at best (unless yer an inside trader). I believe the 50th Annie pups are pure gold at a bargain basement price. To each their own.

Thanx again, Seymour - you rock bro'!

:doh:Thanks for enlighten me Scott, if MF contracted SD, that's fine, and fair market. guess I had too much that day :alcoholic

Re: Limited edition duncans at musicians enemy!!

+1 Evan! That's why this place is great, because I can express my disagreements with the SD's sale policy.

I don't like MF/GC, they are trying to do what Walmart did. As an economist guessing their aim (more $'s) I have a hard time to think that they are doing this really to honor Seth Lover. In fact, Duncan has been doing a great job to honor his memory by offering Seths and Antiquities.

To sum up I have to say that I disagree with the MF/GC part, not the creation of these "custom" seths with these very cool resistance values. (Guys A5 is a type-o! They have a2 mags. the K values are great because I always felt that the regular Seths are too cool. That's why I prefer ants (hotter) with full strength magnets.)

They are great collectibles, so hope that GJ and Gary Ladd adore what they get. However, I am with Scott_F on that one, that is, I did not like the cover.

BTW GJ great link man, very cool read that I have bookmarked. Thanks.

Best,

B

Actually, Evan mentioned that they have A5 magnets, not A2.

I don't know, I just don't see these being a huge collectible. If someone hadn't posted about this, I doubt most of us would even know that these pickups existed. I don't see anyone forking out excessive money for these on Ebay, especially when they can likely buy a new one from the custom shop for the same price. I agree with Artie, if you want a guaranteed return on your investment with little to no risk, buy some high-rated bonds.
