Re: Limited edition duncans at musicians enemy!!

Damn, I can't wait till they get here! I don't care about all the other issues, I'm just stoked that Seymour (thru Seth) came out with something I haven't yet heard.
I'm not worried about whether I'll like'em, because I'll just keep putting them in guitars till I find their final home.

I'm really leaning toward the McCarty, because I think A2 Seths would be a bit dark in that guitar.....plus, I want to have the guitar that Ted McCarty may have never had the opportunity to hear....the guitar that bears his namesake with the pickups he WOULD have installed, had he still worked for Gibson. I'll just pretend my McCarty is a 59 Gibson McCarty with stock pickups!!!!!

Re: Limited edition duncans at musicians enemy!!

That's bizarre...the MF website says A2 and A5 in the same listing. Evan says they are A5, and the ones Gary got are A2? :wrf:

Re: Limited edition duncans at musicians enemy!!

Well, I will say that MJ winds a meanass pup. She's no slouch. I'm guessing someone doesn't know what they are talking about when it comes to specs. Would the uninformed person please stand up?

I've put A5 mags in my Antiquities and much preferred the A2's. I also tried some A3's that I have, still preferred the A2's.

Someone ought to set this straight. If the specs are written onthe box in MJ's handwriting, I'd believe those specs over anything I read on this forum or at MF site.

Strange...

Re: Limited edition duncans at musicians enemy!!

Gary, I haven't gotten mine yet, because of a change of address I had to verify with MF. Let me get this straight......The pickups are Alnico 2. That's fine with me.
The fact that MJ wound them still doesn't bother me, although they were advertised as being wound by Seymour himself.

It still says 50th Anniversary on the pickup covers, right? The "Wound for Musician's Friend" is only on the Box, right? Just pleeeze tell me it doesn't say that anywhere on the pickups themselves!!!! Or, do you even know?

Re: Limited edition duncans at musicians enemy!!

Well, I guess the proof will be in the tone. I bought them for that anyway. I think I'll stay with my original plan and try them in my LP and McCarty, and they're bound to sound great in one of them.

The good news is that I just sold 2 roadcases for $300 that were taking up closet space, so I'm not sweating the money....I just want them to sound good.

Re: Limited edition duncans at musicians enemy!!

I have no problem buying Duncan pups from MF, :smokin: and have spent quite a bit of money in the process.

A gold cover . . . with a black rose etched into the cover.

That would be killer. :32:
gold/silver covered JB with the black rose and i'm sold.

but as far as sales and stuff goes.. if they sell em, that's good. so what if you dont get them through other retailers? yea, we all know GC and MF has a lot of douchebags in their ranks, but they cover far more ground than other retailers of which the regular joe schmoe hasnt even heard of.

these pups will be highly collectible in a couple of years. thats a big plus and..you got a duncan for christs sake..

jonesy, in 2040, i believe the term Air Guitar wont be percieved as is today ;)

what i DONT like (not just MF related, but quite some others too) that it's shipment is limited to the US only.. c'mon, show some love for the old continent..

Can Evan confirm the specs for us? It sounds like they are in fact A2, not A5 as he originally said.

Re: Limited edition duncans at musicians enemy!!

I can certainly understand Gary's frustration here. Whats interesting also, if you go to MF's site now, it appears as though they've re-written the ad copy. It clearly says Alnico V magnets top and bottom, and they now say, "hand wound in the custom shop", but not the "by Seymour Duncan" part. It just says that he engraved and signed them.

I never thought for a minute that these would have any particular "collector" value, but there does seem to be a few snafu's in their presentation.

I should rephrase that - I believe they will have "collector" value, they won't have "investment" value. A subtle, yet significant difference. $300 invested in a Govt. bond will probably produce a higher yield. ;)

Re: Limited edition duncans at musicians enemy!!

I just think the whole "collectible" thing is amazing...It was lame enough when people pay stupid money for guitars that were made with the same eye toward manufacturing efficiency and profit as is used now - just with the lesser technology of the time. Now people are going nuts for *pickups*. Riddikkerus. Get a freakin' guitar, get some pals who are players, and play some muzik, sez I... ;-)

Did the original MF Ad state that they were hand wound by Seymour?

Most definitely.

Re: Limited edition duncans at musicians enemy!!

The A2 marking on the Box/packaging might have been a handwritten typo on MJ's part. That is a possibility. We're all human. A5 makes way more sense to me than A2 if they're trying to do something unique. Gary, I'd email Billy or Evan and see what the word is.

Gosh, after watching my buddy's country band play to a few hundred semi-drunk country dancing folks last night, I realized that those of us here are incredibly anal about our tone. I know I was the only guy in the house last night that even thought the word tone to myself. Most everyone else there was trying to get buzzed or hook up with someone of the opposite sex, do the sex thing with a buzz. I truly believe I was the only one there thinking about tone, along with those other standard male thoughts. ;)

LOL...I'd imagine the majority of that is true.

Re: Limited edition duncans at musicians enemy!!

Jolly, I wish you'd been with me. You'd have made quite an impression with all that hair. BUt, then just when they were about to make us kick their butts, you'd open up your piehole and say something with that TN accent and they'd all be, okay, that's cool, he's one of us. ;)

If it weren't for Tennessee, there'd be no Texas. Something to consider, y'all.

And, Jolly, not hte majority, but ALL of that was true.

Note to bookkeeping dept: be sure to add the name of Dr. Barlo to the SD enemy list. Schedule termination for first week of April.

If we all weren't anal about tone we'd probably all be anal about something else.
