Line 6 amps

Re: Line 6 amps

A Family member has a Spider Valve 100H and i have spent some time with one.

I DO NOT LIKE !

Not even the Pre-Sets that i had huge expectations for (the Massugha[sp?] ones) delivered.

I'll stay with the Laney AOR's, Bassman's, 5E3's, Ampeg Jets, and all the other amps i love.

Just my 2cents and hours spent w this line6 product
;)

Well the presets are complete garbage I can tell you that. I've had a ton of amps, 5150, marshall 2000, 900, 800, laney gh50L, dual rectifier, etc.

I can tell you I'm totally happy with my spider valve and got good tones out of flextone III when I had it. It's not like a marshall where you can turn everything to 5, tweak it a little, and it's good to go, you have to spend a lot of time with them but they can sound sweet.

Re: Line 6 amps

Is this the spider valve?

Actually, no, it's one of the 2nd generation of original Spiders. Looks the same as the first ones, but they'd had a couple of years to work out the bugs, so to speak. And I'll admit that the original presets don't do much for me, and you have to do some homework to get them to sound right for YOU, but it's been an amazingly trouble-free amplifier (compared to my Marshall, which seemed to spend most of its first 2 or 3 years with me in the shop). I do a lot of our recording with a P.O.D., though the Spider does come in handy on occasion.

And I've gotta echo Butch's sentiment that the key to successful modeling is that you have to READ the manual.

You've got to be kidding. You didn't like the Vetta but you DID like the Spider?!

I like it for what it is; a small inexpensive amp for home practicing. I bought my nephew (a beginner player) one for Xmas and it was a very nice amp for under $200. The Vetta on the other hand was nearly 10x that price.

Re: Line 6 amps

I think some of the higher level line 6 stuff is OKAY, but I really never connected with one as well as I did with my Vox VT50. They just haven't gotten that lower gain thing down yet. For metal though they're really fun to just mess around on, but I could never see myself using one at a gig (perhaps a Flextone or a Vetta are exceptions)
