Line 6 DT25 mythbusting

I'd like to hear some opinions about the Line 6 DT25. The demo from Andertons blew the vox nighttrain 50 from my list as I found the sounds it claimed to achieve really convincing. Before the haters start to jump up, I'm not a Line 6 fan at all normally, but from what I've heard of this amp I think they made an incredible innovative amplifier. Are there some owners who can confirm my thoughts? I'm maybe planning to by the head and use it with a vox ac4 cabinet loaded with some greenbacks.

To get the most from it you need the Line 6 HD 500, so factor that into the price. At that point you're looking at a $1300 amp that will depreciate quickly, and there are many other nice amps in that price range that while not as versatile, sound better.

I think they're the best amps Line 6 has ever made. They really do sound good.

I've played the 25 and 50 heads, and the 25 combo. I was able to get really nice tones out of it, even without connecting the HD500 floorboard to it.

Even the little combo should appeal to metalheads, because you can dial in super heavy tones and the bass is full and tight unlike most combos. I even demoed it for some downtuned 7 string guys, tweaking the knobs as they played, and the amp sold itself. I don't work for a guitar store....this was at an amp show.

Re: Line 6 DT25 mythbusting

I was very close to buying a DT50 this week and was doing as much research as I could, there's one on ebay for under $700. They sound really good in the demos i've seen but what put me off in the end was all the stories I was seeing about them crapping out/blowing fuses with too much regularity. Now granted most of these stories/reviews were from when the amp was new so i'm sure some revisions have been done I would imagine, but i'm not looking to spend a grand on one of those things from a dealer when I can find them cheaper from private sellers (likely with no warranty protection). So who knows what the vintage of the unit would be and I wouldn't want to jack around with the hassle of issues. Looks like those things are going for a grand or more new from authorized dealers and if i'm spending a grand for an amp it's not going to be on a Line 6. I ended up finding a Mesa Single Recto for a decent price instead and went with that. Will be here tomorrow. :friday:

I'm not a Line 6 hater, I have an HD147 head that has served me very well since 08.

I found myself wanting to turn the gain down on the majority of their OD clips. Dug the dudes playing around 20:00!

I'd love to grab one, be pretty cool to run with my HD500. I've played the combo a couple of times and was pretty impressed. The switching comes off as a little clunky sometimes but for all it can do it's not a deal breaker.

Re: Line 6 DT25 mythbusting

I've been using a DT25 for almost a year now with my HD500. It's been great! I initially did some demo clips of my friend's DT50 which really sold me on the DT series and how good they sound.

You can check out some of those clips here: http://sixstringsamurai.co.nz/2012/09/10/gearvolution-part-ii-line-6-dt50-review/

I also did extensive clips of the new Soldano models, which was a little milestone for me because Line 6 shared the post on their official FB page: http://sixstringsamurai.co.nz/2012/10/21/soldano-slo100-vs-pod-hd500-competition/

The coolest thing about the DT for me now is that since the v2.0 update, you can store 8 different amp models locally in the amp, out of ANY of the HD series preamps - so if you're not a big effects user, the HD500 is no longer vital to get the most out of the DT series amps: http://sixstringsamurai.co.nz/2012/10/31/line-6-dt-series-firmware-update-v2-0-is-out/

Sorry for the glut of links to my website posts, but I've become an avid fan of the amp and what it can do, so I've done some extensive posts about it, which I figured could be useful here :)
