Line 6 Flextone speaker question

Our other Guitarist has a Line 6 Flextone. He’s very happy with it but on some patches the amount of bass he uses is causing the speaker to flap a bit.
Now the question is has anyone tried up-rating the speaker on one of these?
If so what to?
And was it a noticeable improvement?

Oh, before anyone suggests an extension cab it’s the cheaper version of the amp with no speaker out.

Re: Line 6 Flextone speaker question

those amps have a special speaker i'm sure.... it's not your common guitar amp speaker.... i'm sure it is some sort of full range speaker... like a Keyboard amp speaker or PA speaker... Whatever the speaker is i'm sure it was designed to reproduce the Line 6 sound bank as clean and clear as can be.....

Re: Line 6 Flextone speaker question

My recollection is that Line 6 upgraded the speakers after the Flextone IIs came out. At one point there was a speaker upgrade you could purchase - I think it was the one being used in Flex III or the Vetta, can't remember. But, if your buddy's amp is a Flextone II or older, I think there is a newer generation speaker out there. He could call Line 6 and purchase one there. At the time that I was interested in this (several years ago), I think the new speakers were about 100 bucks a crack or so.

Re: Line 6 Flextone speaker question

After the Flextone II line, Line 6 Switched to "custom made" Celestions. During the Flextone II and before, they used a speaker made for them by Eminence. As a former Line 6 user (I had the Flextone II head and 3 Flextone 4x12's, I can most assuredly say that those speakers suck in a most heinous manner. Terrible. Example: I sold two of the cabs but kept one to use with my Marshall rig. It sounded terrible. I "upgraded" the speakers with some $20 speakers from Warehouse Guitar Speakers (their 16 ohm "Classic Lead 12" clones). Now the cab sounds KILLER! Those particular eminence speakers are poop.

Re: Line 6 Flextone speaker question

For a time I ran my Flextone into my Avatar with Hellatones - turned off the speaker emulators. Sounded much better than the stock Line 6 cabinet. Much better.

i can't see myself ever using a stock line 6 cab for a regular guitar amp like that Marshall you are talking about... the line 6 speakers are made for reproducing modeling sounds... clean and clear.... the computer simulates the real guitar speaker sounds and the amp and speaker cabs for Line 6 is sopposed to reproduce it cleanly like a mini PA system

and speakers for a real marshall should be completely different in design
