Line 6 G50 wireless vs Analog? Newbie jumping into the wireless arena here...

Hey all, is the Line 6 G stuff really as good as advertised? I'm looking at the G50, but I recently paid 75 bucks for that little Joyo wireless system, and although it works pretty good, the A/D conversion is less than desirable. It sounded best with bass, pretty decent(but noticeable) with a solid state amp, but with my new VOX tube amp, the Joyo was unacceptable. The Line 6 stuff, I see, is digital as well, which makes me hesitant to invest in it when I can get an old analog unit like a Samson SR-22 for cheap on ebay. Will the wireless experts please sound off? Is the Line 6 worth the investment or are the old analog units just as good? The most important factor in my decision is the preservation of original tone, and yes, I use pedals...overdrive, delay, phase, chorus and I will own a flange sooner or later. Thanks!!

The Line6 wireless is as good as you will get for the money and better than a lot of more expensive options. I have an old X2 system from before Line6 buying the company/technology and it works great. The G30 that I have is an improvement over that design and the G50 is yet another step above. You can't go wrong with that one.

The Line6 wireless is as good as you will get for the money and better than a lot of more expensive options. I have an old X2 system from before Line6 buying the company/technology and it works great. The G30 that I have is an improvement over that design and the G50 is yet another step above. You can't go wrong with that one.

I thought the only difference between G30 and G50 was the upgrade in housing? (plastic vs aluminum) Are there other upgrades?

I must have been thinking of the upgrades in the G55, not the G50. As for the housing upgrade on the G50, that alone is worth the money. My G30 case is cracked in a couple places, just from transporting it in my pedal case and gig bag. I had to epoxy the cracks twice over the last year or so.

That's good to know. I've been thinking about buying one for a long time now. How is the signal stability? Do you have problems with the transmitter coming unplugged at all?

The G50 has longer range. The G90, the rackmount version, has even longer range although it's longer than you'd ever need. A fellow band member has a G90 and it's worked flawlessly. The only issues he ever had with it turned out to be user error.

Nope, but I have everything velcro'd to my board and the cables are all held in place with wire ties, then it goes into a hard case for travel. Overkill? Maybe, but all I do is plug in the power and spool out the cables for amp input and channel selection.

I recently went wireless for the first time going for the g50 model. So far... Absolutely excellent. I have had no problems. I can't compare the signal quality with other analogue units but I am happy with this one. I was considering the g30 however I was advised against it due to its flimsiness, and on getting my hands on each one I have to say the g50 was leaps and bounds better. If gigging you want your gear to be solid and dependable. Done a good number of gigs since the summer with it and so far so good

G50 uses the same transmitter as the G90. More frequency options, longer range, and better display.

G50 was my go-to "cable" until I turned to the 13 pin dark side.

Another option is to look at the Shure wireless system. It ill set you back about 500$ though.

So, the bad part is if you own a Line 6 guitar (e.g., JTV-59 for example) and a HD500X and want to use the benefits of the Line 6 interface....

Line 6 wireless is not capable as a working device for interfacing between the JTV-59 and HD500X, instead it is only working as a wireless plug in device, same as a cord, but wireless.

The functionality that exist between a JTV-59 and HD500X is lost.
