Line 6 HD500 demo clip - Reelin in the Years

Working on some patches for the HD500 and just seeing how they translate.

REELIN' on Soundcloud

Squier Strat/Duncan Designed SC101 neck> HD500 - Classic Distortion(Rat),Tweed Bassman Bright, 4x10, 409 DYN (mic sim), Noisegate> Tascam2488> 24bit mono wave> 256k mp3(converted w/Wavelab)> Soundcloud

Since everyone likes to know what the chain is. Any and all processing is the HD500 except for the wav to mp3 conversion. Makes it slightly compressed but not too much difference I don't think.

Made this patch since I wanted to work on figuring out the Reelin in the Years intro solo and have it feel more realistic. On the recording Elliott Randall ran into and SVT head but since the HD500 doesn't have an SVT I had to improvise a little. In the past I have had pretty good luck using a Bassman model for tracking bass so I gave it a shot. Obviously not perfect but I am pretty happy with it.

Very nice Scott! playing, and how you dialed in that Patch.

thanks guys!

still tweaking the patch, got to get the cleaner side of the solos in that tune as well.

I always thought the "Reelin' In The Years" tone was a fuzz face or similar FUZZ

Sounded good, pretty doggone close to me, though!

Yeah I think it is a fuzz too but I can't seem to get the fuzz's on the HD500 quite where I want them. Got to keep messing with it. The Rat style distortion has a lot of the same qualities overall but doesn't nail it. There is that very open sort "whaa" sound in a few spots that only a real fuzz seems to nail.

It's fun trying to get some of the sounds I want out of it, can't do all the things the Vetta did but overall I think the HD500 has much more organic sounds to my ears.

***Just found this on Wiki *** In an article in Guitar Player Magazine (July 2007) Randall was asked what rig he used to record the solo on "Reelin' in the Years". He states, "That was my '63 Fender Stratocaster with a PAF humbucker in the neck position, straight into an Ampeg SVT bass amp. The SVT wouldn't have been my first choice for an amp--or even my fifth choice--but it worked a storm on that recording!"
