Line 6 pedals

I have no real experience with these, but I need to make a new pedal board for my Bogner Shiva. I am going to have a CE2 or CH1 a DD3 and maybe a Rotovibe Line 6. Will this type of pedal have to run thru the effects loop or will I be able to run it straight in? Your thoughts are welcome Thanks! DS

Re: Line 6 pedals

most people think delay and modulation sound better in the loop if you're getting any overdrive from the amp's preamp

even so, you should probably try 'em out front to determine if that holds for you

Re: Line 6 pedals

The modulation effects sound much better in the loop. A delay or reverb out front sound horrid because the signal is first modulated and then clipped. What happens is the reverb or delay is clipped as well. Not pleasant. Same with Chorus, Flanger, Phaser, etc. Whatever you run before distortion/overdrive, will be clipped as well. This is why those effects sound so much better after distortion/overdrive. The effect is applied to the signal post clipping. Ever notice that spring reverb units are at the tail end of the pre-amp? ;)

A phaser or flanger can sound good out front for that EVH type effect. Wahs and Univibes as well. Anything else, in the loop.

Dave, Cool thing about the Line 6 pedals is they come in a docking station. You can permanently attach the docking station to your board and just change the FX module to any other L6 FX. (Cool Idea) I have the L6 Verbzilla. If you wanna check it out into your Bogner? Let me know , I'll meet you down at Cris's.:)

Thanks Ken, Why don't you come by this Saturday. his address is 88B Montauk Highway. (631) 841-4457 ( thats the showroom #) we are onlt at the shop on Sat. You should see the new Archtop he just completed. Its awesome.

I have to get over to GC and play with some new effects. As you know I really don't use much, but I like a delay and Chorus, but this Rotovibe thing is interesting. Have to play thru it a little to get a feel for it. I just wasn't sure weather it needs to go threu the loop or not. I will see when I can get my hands on one.

Re: Line 6 pedals

pahse and chorus I want out front....I absolutely hate them in the loop

Delays I prefer how they did it in the old days before effects loops...have it on top of the mic'ed cabs signal...personally that sounds best to me....and thats why I hate loops...on something like a NMV head that has had a loop put in (or the reissue) it still sounds "wrong" to me...thats the one cool thing I like about modellers....it's set up so the delay gets tacked on after the entire signal, just like they did way back when...Line 6 does it best in the PODXT/L cos you can choose WHERE you want your effect. I could dial up a patch that had the goose, Phase 90 and CE-1 in front just like stompers into the amp, and then go post signal with the delay and/or reverb (or you could go into the loop with any of those..your choice).

But given the choice between delay into the pre , or after the pre (into the loop), no doubt the loop sounds better.
