Line 6 renewed interest. Not Bad

I own a line 6 spider II 212, and I want a nice head/cab soon, but today I went to the local guitar shop and plugged into a JCM 900 and then a Randal tube combo (at random) and could barely tell the difference on the overdriven channels compared to the modeling effects of the line 6. A liiiittle warmer and "more there" maybe. Do I dare buy a Line 6 head, perhaps that new behemouth-mother-computer-zillion-watt-neon-light one? I am reevaluating my options.

I've never played a Randall or a JCM900 that I wanted to own. Your mileage may vary, but apparently isn't! There's almost as much "solid state" junk in the 900 range as there is in the Lame 6. Try a Supersonic or an old 800 sometime... or a small Soldano head like the Atomic; or a Top Hat... Dr. Z... Boogies...

There are TONS of killer amps out there if you look beyond the guitarmarts...

Right on. I was looking into a Randal Solid state, cause they're priced decent. Or an orange tiny terror, but they're pretty small. IDK

Don't let them low wattage amps fool you bro. Them 5 to 7 watt heads will push a 4x12 cab quite nicely and they can get pretty dam loud. If I were going to blow the dough on that size head, I'd definately look into the Soldano Astroverb.

I've got a Valve Jr. After I changed the tubes and did a few tweeks to it, it sounds pretty dam good on it's own through a 2x12 w/ a green back and a vintage 30. It's only 5 watts and it gets loud enough to rattle my windows and they love pedals!

Or there's that Line 6 / Bogner SpiderValve. Get a Line 6 amp and a tube amp at the same time yayy..

Re: Line 6 renewed interest. Not Bad

Yeah, I guess my whole point of this thread, is that line 6 does a really pretty good job modeling high gain tube sound. Valve junior huh? I'll look into that. I guess I would want a head solid or tube, that just sounds really good overdriven high gain.
