Line 6 Spider IV 150

Will be picking up this amp soon. I had to choose between a new Acoustic Fishman Performer for my Acoustic playing or a new Electric amp for my solid bodies, and this ended up winning out. My Acoustic playing will just have to live with the PA system and that works well for now. I have a smaller Fender Acoustasonic 30 watt that is a great bedroom amp and when using the line out to the mixer works well for PA use.

I needed more power for both styles of playing and cannot afford both amps right now.

I do not want to get into a debate over tube vs solidstate.... I own a Mesa Express 5:25 1x12 and love it. The flexibility of this Spider IV 150, its volume, and its amazing diversity of sounds just has won me over (Plus price!!, bang for the buck..... you cannot beat this!). It sounds better than some of the tube amps I auditioned which more has to do with the cabinets used than the amp performance. I have already printed out the manual and have studied up on it.

For those of you who have used or owned this amp. How has it worked out for you?

Re: Line 6 Spider IV 150

It's basically a reduced feature set POD X3 in a head or combo form.
Same modeling tech as the X3.
That being said, one of the most powerful features on the POD X3 is the semi-parametric EQ, which takes the POD tone from being good, to being GREAT, which isn't on the Spider series.
Honestly, just hold out for the POD HD, or grab a used X3 live and either run it straight to FOH or buy a cheap, powered cab to use with it which all up wont cost anymore than buying the IV 150

Re: Line 6 Spider IV 150

yeah man

in the long run i predict huge disappointment and regret if you buy a brand new Line 6 spider

they update / rerelease the series every two or three years for a reason.

Re: Line 6 Spider IV 150

Wow! Did not know that there were non-fans of Line 6 spider IV amps :naughty:

For me this amp will work fine. I am not looking for a POD to make tones, the tones are already there, when I do a cover song, its there. Plus with a POD, more hookups, more hassle. NOT Cheaper either. After getting a powered cab... you have got to be joking!!!:eyecrazy:

What made this amp appealing to me was the TONE and convenience. For the price, you get a amp that really sounds great, two 12" Celestion speakers with 150 watts of power. I pickup and go. 1 guitar, 1 amp...DONE.

I really want to hear from any of you that play with this amp. Your experiences and if it gets the job done for you.

If you do not own this amp or have never played with this amp for a gig, then your comments do not help.

Re: Line 6 Spider IV 150

Well I only know of one and I based this purchase from his recommendation and from spending hours with his amp. He has went through many amps and this one is what did it for him. If you want to visit the website its

http://www.sticktime.net/

His bio is old on the website so it will not give you his latest equip. list, he started with a POD xt, then back to amps, his last two were a line 6 bogner 100 HD with a carvin 4x12 cab, now to his line 6 spider 4 150 combo. I think before the amps he had the Boss GT-8 with a tube screamer going straight to the sound console.

So luck is with me.....

I don't have the best opinion of Line 6 stuff either, but then I like my Roland Cube and it's not exactly everyone's dream amp.

So tell us how it goes, I'll be waiting for sure.

Re: Line 6 Spider IV 150

...Am I?

I do remember a brief period I wanted a Jet King more than I wanted a new car. :D

Re: Line 6 Spider IV 150

I used to have a Spider II half stack...a lot of sounds, and none that sounded that great. My friend recently bought a Spider IV 15 watter and it's not bad for the price and size, but it seems like Line 6 never makes the sound, "bigger," when moving onto larger heads and more watts. Just sounds thin and brittle.

he's of the same generation that i'm from

the one that had Line 6 shoved down our throats the instant we picked up a guitar and found out quick that they don't sound as good as some viable alternatives

all's I'm saying is you'd be doing yourself a favor at least checking out a Vox Valvetronix or something.

sorry if not everybody on the internet is gona support your decision to buy an amp that really isn't that great but um this is a free public forum and not everybody's gonna say HEY WOW THAT'S AWESOME WE ALL USE THAT SAME THING AND LOVE THE CRAP OUT OF IT

in fact most of us are dudes who are jaded with lame digital modeling and want gear that sounds good.

Re: Line 6 Spider IV 150

Good luck trying to find a gigging musician using a Spider as their main amp.

Uhm, depending on how big a place we're playing with a full band, I use my Spider a lot. It's been dependable, the tones are decent, it doesn't weigh 80 lbs, what's not to like?

OK, First question...Do you Own it or have you taken the time to play it and use its modeling ability????

First Statement..... I don't care if everybody hates it....if they have used it fine...but to "DIS" a product that you have not even used...give me a break.

I don't need anyone's support to buy this amp...I LIKE IT. I can buy a $10,000 dollar amp if I want, but I want this one.....What I am asking is for the people that actually used this amp, if they can give me some feed back to its advantages, disadvantages, its pros and cons.... I want the negatives just not a opinion from someone who has never used it. HAVE I STATED THAT SIMPLY ENOUGH FOR YOU.
I own Mesa Boogies, I own Marshall's, I have Gibson, Ibanez, and Fender guitars of all models. I know quality, I know crap. I have purchased both in my day. I am not dis-respecting your generation, I am pointing out statements made out of inexperience. No experience with the product means I cannot take what you say with any grain of faith. You do not back up your statements with hands on with the product I am asking about.
Anyway, try to be open minded.... I use to think Samsung was crap, now they make some of the best LCD and LED video screens in the world.

I like Spider 3 15W version. But no more money from me for them.

Re: Line 6 Spider IV 150

I thought my experience was brought up enough in that i was raised in the generation where almost everybody i know had a Spider for their first amp

i've been trying to make those amps sound good since i started playing

yeah, spider iv's sound better than spider ii's ever did but none of them sound as good as, say, a vox night train or my old Fender with some choice pedals in front of it.

sorry man, as a young guy whose perspective of Line 6 is that it's cheap digital modeling to help you figure out which REAL amps you want to buy, i'm having a hard time wrapping my mind around an older cat with quality gear wanting to buy and use one on purpose. NO CAPS LOCK NECESSARY THANKS FOR THE EFFORT THO.

Agreed with EP.
Nice clean, nice heavy dist for home playing.
But I'll never understand people who buy 100W Spiders, Valvestates or MGs.

I own Mesa Boogies, I know what tone is...... I want to know if this amp will do the job in small band situations to get the song across to a bunch of drunks dancing on the floor.

When I do my own thing, I will worry about tone.... come on Empty Pockets, your screen name is implying more than just lack of funds.

Re: Line 6 Spider IV 150

Dude it's just not worth to occupy space in you house with a 150W Spider :)
You can do better, get a lamp, fake Ming, a bonsai tree.

As for the sound quality, it's not bad.
I prefer Valvetronix over Spider III though. It just suits better for my kind of playing.
Does generation IV sounds a bit better?
