Line6 Valve Spider - do you know it ?

Re: Line6 Valve Spider - do you know it ?

Well, I want to chime in since I ahd plenty of time to try it!
Is it a good amp? Well, the price range is the same with 2. hand 5150s, so it's not the best choice for a metal amp
Does it metal well? It's not the tightest out there, and the 2x12" doesn't work perfect for fast and tight riffage. It sounds huge on slow/deep chugging. But techy stuff is not doable "live".
Effects are top notch ofcourse. they work as they have to, and having them onboard is really cool.
The Tuner is a joke. Wouldn't rely on it live.

Overall, not much better than a Vox XT, not even better than the HD 147; which is tighter and stronger; and a 2. and the new 5150 1x12" is a much better choice.

So do you think the Valve Spider would work for Stoner, Sludge N'Doom bands ?

Never looked into the HD 147's before !
Let's see what i can find on Utoob !
Is the 5150 tighter than the Line 6 ?

It will do the stoner thing well, but it's still too "clean/sterile" sounding for that.you would need a fuzz pedal to get it right.

It's not tight enough to compete with a 5150! if you want that tightness, Engl, diezel and VHT are your friends :)

Re: Line6 Valve Spider - do you know it ?

I have the new Spider Valve MKII 112 and for an all in one rig with warm tube tones, you can't beat it. The amp will do just about anything. I need tones for Hendrix, SRV, Satriani, and Lynch and it does it all (plus jazz, but I don't pretend to be a jazz player).

If you do is try one out at Guitar Center at bedroom volumes, then you are not getting a very good idea of what the amp is capable of. Crank it up and you should get a better idea if the amp is for you.

Re: Line6 Valve Spider - do you know it ?

IMO Line 6 does the best modeling in the market but they are not 100% close to the real yet Modeling valve amp concept is something we will see more common in the future. Spider valve is too young to be trusted upon.
I had a change to try this amp head and matching cab in a GC store. It is really easy to dial in some great tones but it does not sound better then a all tube amp.
Price might look cheap but you will definitely need one of those big FBV pedals to take advantage of it.
Also changing one preset to the other changes the volume level drastically and it is some you need to careful with if you don't want to bleed your ears.

I am affraid that we are gonna see much more of this "all-toob amps morphed w a Pod" style amps in the very near future.

Keep our eye on this NAMM, i am sure we will see something form Marshall and other brands.
If not this year, then deff in the very near future.

Re: Line6 Valve Spider - do you know it ?

I bought the 1X12 combo just over a week ago. It personally like it. It comes with a Vintage 30 speaker. But, it is complicated... I am not 100% sure if this has a long term spot in my amp collection. I bought the 4 switch controller and wanted to set four pre-sets which seem to change a bit (delay level % and stuff). It is a good little amp if you want a "do everything" amp and can live without it doing something truly awesome.

I have owned VHTs, Marshalls, Soldanos and currently have Bogner 101B and a Diezel VH-4 and I use Bogner closed back 2X12 cabs.

This amp is perfect for the guy that wants a lighter rig. My normal rig would consist of a head, cab, effects rack, Wah, MIDI controller and a bunch of cords. I am hoping I can just grab this amp and the small Line 6 foot controller and leave everything else at home.

That's pretty much my thoughts exactly. I've owned mesa's and various marshalls, and got this basically to downsize and simplify a bit. A head and cab is fine for the jam space but if you're carting it around to jam for fun at peoples houses it is over kill and a pain the ass. No it doesn't sound as good as my rectifier, but then again, it has a ton of versatility, and with the right guitar, I've found it quite tight. It's got a ton of bass, you really have to dial it back to keep things tight.

Re: Line6 Valve Spider - do you know it ?

I do have one question.... so I have FBV Express MkII foot controller and my four main presets are set on 17A, 17B, 17C and 17D. These are programmed to A, B, C and D on my foot controller. I'd think that if I used the knob on the amp and went to pre-set 8A THEN pressed A on my foot controller it would go back to 17A but it doesn't. Do I just need to keep the amp set on 17A, B, C or D so the foot controller goes between those four presets? I think that works right I just need to make sure I understand the thing so it doesn't screw me (or really I screw myself) when using it in public.

Re: Line6 Valve Spider - do you know it ?

I listened to the demo on the Line 6 site. IMO, Line 6 has successfully made a tube amp sound just like a solid state Spyder. Sheesh.

Re: Line6 Valve Spider - do you know it ?

I'm willing to bet 2 weeks with one and I could make some great patches.
I played just the presets and though I can hear the Line6 sound the tubes help give it a more traditional amp sound.

Mmmmm, so they gave us the Marshall JDM digital pre-amp thingy.

If things carry on like they do, soon we will see a Mese Boogie amp with a T.C. Electronics digital section.

That's pretty much what I thought of the amp when I tried one (actually I was trying a guitar, but you get the picture).
I can't say the valve power amp adds anything to the spider sound.
Ok it comes with a load of different sounds... but non of them sound like a decent amp.
Never mind getting a pod and a valve amp, just a boss metal zone and a tranny amp through a 2x12 would sound a ton better than a the line6 spider valve, in my opinion.
I just can't understand why they didn't use the modelling from the flextone, at least that sounds like a guitar amp.
In it's favour the spider is very screamy and in ya face... just not, in my opinion, in a good way.

Re: Line6 Valve Spider - do you know it ?

It's been a couple of years since this post, Imight go check it out. I like the Line 6 modeling, but I know the the all tube amps have better tone.

Has anyone upgraded thier MKII spider and what do you think now.
