so theres usually a post about what gear your going to buy in the next year, so how about what Mods you plan on doing to your guitars!:naughty:

Im planning to get tonepros nickel hardware for both gibsons, gotoh locking tuners for the sg, grover locking rotomatics for the explorer, and a grapite nut for the explorer too. Possibly graphite saddles.

anyway, list it:bling:

Re: List your MODS for the upcomming year

Rewire the Ibanez hollowbody with a modified Jimmy Page mod.
Maybe new tuners and bridge for it, too.

Put a clear/amber finish on the Carvin once I know which pups are staying in it.

Put a humbucker in the bridge of the Grind and maybe do something with the electronics/tuners/bridge.

Finish the 2 OD pedals on my bench... and decide what to do with a couple of others... I suspect there are at least 2 more BYOC pedals in my future.

Spec out a duplicate for the 2-Stroke I finished earlier this year.
Spec out an 18watt clone or 2.
Find an all tube power amp for the GNX3.

And finally put together an all mahogany/rosewood piece of lovliness with a Graphtech Ghost system in it.
Probably APII neck... maybe a Jazz... and either a Crazy 8, a Custom Custom or a PATB in the bridge... or maybe even a JB or a 59... who knows.

And find the money to pay for all the possible ways to amplify that setup... ha.

Re: List your MODS for the upcomming year

At some point, I'd like to replace the bridge on my Kramer with either a real Floyd & new posts, or maybe something like a Wilkinson.

The only stuff on the short list is a set of staggered tuners for my Strat. If Eric Johnson's Strat doesn't have a string tree, I don't feel mine should, either :)

Re: List your MODS for the upcomming year

I first need to get new pickups, a new bridge block, and a setup for my Strat.

Then a PGn for my Les Paul, along with a Jimmy Page mod.

Then some more wiring stuff with my Strat.

Some kind of pickup and setup for the Squier, possibly have it routed for a neck P-90 or single coil.

Re: List your MODS for the upcomming year

Im going to add a new bridge pup to my les paul, take the pickguard off, and switch my speed knobs for top hat knobs. Make it look classy and all.

Re: List your MODS for the upcomming year

I wanna try a fullshred in my lonestar star with either Willkinson or whatever that other "6 screws" vintage repro bridge is. And maybe locking tuners too. Invader in my Barreta.

Re: List your MODS for the upcomming year

Refret with Dunlop 6100 fretwire and new bone nut for my jackson DR-7

Re: List your MODS for the upcomming year

With my next Esquire build, I want to experiment with a wider sweep of the tone control. I want to use a 500K tone pot, instead of 250K, and that should give me a brighter sound when it's turned all the way up, and maybe .07 to .1uf for the tone cap, instead of .05, and I think that'll give me a darker sound when it's turned down. I'm just looking through what caps I already have this morning, trying to decide what to use. I might just go to the dark side and use .1uf, because Fender used that in a lot of Strats. So I figure that's probably not too extreme.

ahhhh.... scratch that idea. I worked this out this morning. I'll probably keep both pots at 250K, and have the switch select two different tone control ranges.

The bridge position will bypass the tone control like a normal Esquire.
The middle position will be the normal .05uf cap tone control.
The neck position will add another .05 cap in parallel, giving me a .1uf tone control.

So there won't be any fixed tone control, but the neck position of the switch will give me a darker tone control.

The switch hookup works with alligator clips and a DMM that goes BEEEEEEEEEEP

Re: List your MODS for the upcomming year

I have a wonderful Fender Japan Stratpcaster with two single coils and a bridge humbucker.

Right now it still has the Japanese pickups...nothing special.

I plan to put a Duncan Phat Cat in the bridge position and a couple of Antiquity single coils (maybe Texas Hots this time instead of Surfers) in the neck and middle position.

Re: List your MODS for the upcomming year

The next mods I do will actually be undoing previous mods I've done. Instead of two volume, two tone, 3 way switch, and controls for phase and coil split, I'm going to reduce it to a three way switch and one tone for the neck pickup. I'll also be switching the bridge pickup to something that sounds less crappy - the dimarzio PAF7 isn't doing it for me anymore. I also want the middle position to act as a kill switch.

I don't use the middle position ever. There's something about it that is too empty sounding and unnatural. And I never have the tone knob on less than 10, unless I'm playing around with a stoner rock feel, but I'm not doing that stuff with the 7 string.

Re: List your MODS for the upcomming year

Its hard to tell what I will do. I am getting the itch to start building again and I have some designs/ideas floating around in my head. As far as mods, probably too many to count.

I dont like the middle position on most bucker sets so, I flip a magnet or switch the wires on one of the pickups to get a whole different cool sound in the middle position. Give it a try. I dont understand why most folks do do this more often. 9 times out of 10 the middle position sounds nearly just like the neck bucker or close to it anyway. Why not give you axe a totally different sound?

Re: List your MODS for the upcomming year

There's no need since I can switch the phase of the bridge pickup on a whim.

Thats cool. Do you change the phase within that coils of that pickup or, do you change the phase in relation to the other pickup.

Re: List your MODS for the upcomming year

I've got a Crazy 8 coming soon. I'm going to try it in my Jackson Dinky.

Re: List your MODS for the upcomming year

I am getting ready to give me Jazz bass a make over.

I am replacing the Hot Stacks for Jazz with the ProActives APJ set and I am adding the STC-3a 3 band tone circuit with slap contour. In order to do this I am going to have to route under the pickguard to make space to install the active 3 band circuit board. I will also need to use the hole in the control plate where the input jack is mounted for one of the tone controls so I'll need to drill a hole in the side of the bass to mount a new input jack and mounting plate.

I am also going to route a spot to install a dual 9 volt battery compartment into the back of the bass to make battery changes easier.

Finally I am going to install a Leo Quan BadAss II bridge.

It should be an interesting project and a killer sounding bass once it's done. I have the pickups and tone circuit here at the house already and I'll probably start ordering the rest of the parts in the next couple of days.

Re: List your MODS for the upcomming year

I'm gonna resurrect my Warmoth with a fresh coat of paint and probably some Blackouts...I've never had active pickups in a guitar so I wanna try 'em out. Plus the neck on that thing really lends itself to heavy drop-A riffing and the Blackouts seem specifically suited for that sort of thing.

Then once that's taken care of i'm gonna go a little crazy on my other two guitars. I want to switch the humbuckers first...the Custom Custom seems like it will sound really good in my SG-X, and the 500T in my Gibson seems like it'll mix better with the single coils in my Strat, so I'll see how that works out. If it doesn't, then I'm gonna get a Phat Cat and try it in both axes...either have that P90 SG I've always wanted or just a crazy S/S/P90 Strat...maybe both if i like it enough.

I've also been thinking of dropping a Twangbanger in that Strat but that's only gonna be if none of my other options work out...and maybe a Les Trem for my SG but it's hard to justify that price tag for something that's really only gonna make it look cooler.
