Little Pearly Gates (Bridge) in middle position in HSH? (C8 bridge, WLH neck)

I want to replace the Quarter pound single coil in my HSH strat. I like the QP but the hum is just too much for my setup.

I currently have a Custom 8 in the bridge and a WLH in the neck. I leaning towards the Little PG from the custom shop with a series parallel switch for the middle position.

I like the fat tone from the QP (not the hum) and I am not expecting to be an identical replacement. I want something a little warm and a little fat in the middle position and was leaning towards the PG, specifically the higher output bridge version.

Mahogany body, Maple neck, Pao Ferro fretboard.

Your thoughts?

Why not hot rails?

that would be pretty cool, I didn't even know you could get the pearly gates in a single coil size. That pickup configuration sounds like it would be killer.

Actually, I think that would be a cool choice. If you go through with it, come back and let us know how it worked out.

i really like a lil 59 bridge in the middle position so i bet it would work well

I'm buying one from a music shop on eBay since I got 50 bucks in reward money from a big purchase a few months ago.

It will be a week or so before I get installed and tested

Cheers :friday:

I finally got around to installing and trying out the little pearly gates.

One thing to note is I am using a single 500k volume pot in this HSH strat (and one tone and one EMG SPC variable mid boost). I know Seymour Duncan instructions have 250k volume pots used for single coil sized humbuckers. IMO I have always liked using a larger valued volume and tone pots when I have a pickup that uses an A2 magnet. My Jackson Rhoads Model has a CC in it and I found a major improvement in tone (especially in the higher end) as well as a slight bump in output when I used a 1 Meg pot in that guitar.

The little PG Bridge pickup (almost 12k impedance) is perfect for my setup. By itself it has a few of qualities of the QP mixed together with qualities of a hot PAF. Very bluesy and can still pack a punch. In position 2 and 4, it blends surprisingly well with the C8 and the WLH.

I did have to raise the little PG slightly higher than the C8 or the WLH, but not my much.

Thanks for the review, and I am happy you are back to (hum-free) rocking!
