Live Wire pots

Re: Live Wire pots

I'm not really sure, but I assume there's a reason they chose 100k. You can try it, but it may be ear-piercingly bright.

Re: Live Wire pots

Can you use 250 or 500? Will it sound crappy?
yes, you can use 250 or 500k pots.
i have used 500k pots with both classic humbucker and metal livewires.
as a matter of fact, i prefer the 500k pots over the "correct" 100k 's.

the higher the resistance of the pot, the LESS of your signal is sent to ground. you get more output, and more tone with the 500k pots.

i did this with an ibanez rg760 , and a gibson sg.
i dont have any harshness issues in these guitars with the 500k's.
in my charvel model 6 i used 100k's (they were tuff to find),and the classic humbucker just dosent have the "oomph" (like it does in the sg) that i am used to. i am going to swap them with 500k pots when i get the chance.
